WEST BABYLON SCHOOLSANNOUNCEMENT OF ADMINISTRATIVE VACANCY2022-2023Director of Student Services - SecondaryGrades 7-12Probationary AppointmentQUALIFICATIONS:• Master’s Degree/NYS Certification as School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL)• Candidates with administrative experience and/or at least five (5) years of secondary experience in special education CSE supervisory operations will be given preference. Strong understanding of the role of the CSE Chairperson and experience leading meetings. Deep understanding of and experience with special education regulations• Proven ability to work effectively with students, staff and parents; good human relations and supervisory skills• Great communication and organizational skills• Proficient in educational and administrative technology such as IEP Direct.• Strong knowledge and/or experience with the design, development and implementation of the elementary school curriculum as it relates to IEP implementation, progress monitoring and measurement goal settings• Interpretation and application of current Federal and NYS Law and Commissioner’s Regulations regarding special education and student support services.• Candidates with experience with staff supervision and knowledge of APPR regulations will be given preference• A child-centered philosophy, with proven ability as a rigorous academic leader, innovative planner and effective communicator• Diverse candidates are encouraged to applyFUNCTIONS:The Director of Student Services provides leadership and direction for the grades 7 through 12 special education programs, as well as psychological, attendance and social work services, while working cooperatively with principals and district administration. The Director reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for the functions listed below and other essential responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent and/or the Assistant Superintendent:• Coordinates the district’s special services, including special education, speech, occupational and physical therapy, psychological, learning disabilities, and attendance, and works cooperatively with the district administration in the recruitment and selection of personnel for grades 7-12 special services• Serves as the chairperson of the 7-12 Committee on Special Education• Oversees other secondary CSE Chairpeople and associated duties• District-wide evaluation, planning and implementation of all Special Education/Special Service programs and activities throughout the school year and summer elementary students• Serves as the district’s compliance coordinator for Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (7 through 12)• Coordinates transition supports for special education students from the JHS to SHS• Coordinates the activities of the secondary school psychologists and social workers• Coordinates the work of the district’s medical doctors in relationship to special education mandates (7 through 12)• Engages in synergetic supervision with respect to lesson observations and summative evaluations for personnel providing special education services• Meets regularly with all 7-12 special educators, CSE chairpersons, and pupil personnel staff• Supervise, coordinate, evaluate and provide professional development for 7-12 special education curriculum and instruction• Serves as liaison to SEPTA (Special Education Parent Teacher Association)• Serves as Title IX officer regarding all allegations made against secondary students• Coordinates Manifestation Determination Hearings as part of the Superintendent’s Hearings process for secondary students• Works closely with Elementary Director of Students Services to prepare reports for NYSED and other agencies, Section 611/ 619 grants and districtwide related service providers• Accepts other assignments that may be identified by the Superintendent of SchoolsCompetitive Salary and benefitsQualified candidates should submit a brief letter of interest and an updated resume online at www.olasjobs.org/longisland by July 8, 2022 to:Mr. Shawn HanleyAssistant Superintendent for Human ResourcesWest Babylon Schools10 Farmingdale RoadWest Babylon, NY 11704
