WEST BABYLON SCHOOLSANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY2025-2026ELEMENTARY SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERREGULAR SUBSTITUTE/ LEAVE REPLACEMENT QUALIFICATIONS:- NYS Special Education Certification Required – SWD B-2, 1-6 & Elementary B-2, 1-6- Multiple certifications preferred- Successful experience teaching students with special education needs- Demonstrated ability to successfully interact with child study teams, Committee on Special Education and classroom teachers- Experience, knowledge and background related to N.Y.S. learning standards and multiple assessments including formative and benchmark assessments in unit designs- Desire and knowledge to balance students’ social/emotional and academic/intellectual needs- Uses varied instructional methods and assessments to support:- Engaged learning- Higher-order thinking skills- Meaningful, authentic use of knowledge- Integration of 21st century skills- Multiple Intelligences- Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills with parents, staff and students.- Desire and ability to work collaboratively with an academic team including an interdisciplinary approach to lesson design- Knowledge of strategies in the areas of literacy and writing- Knowledge and evidence of unit planning and lesson design using Understanding by Design, differentiated instruction, curriculum mapping and multiple assessment- Evidence of strong classroom management with an emphasis on student engagement and student success in the classroom- Commitment to curriculum development, professional development, flexible teamwork, and instructional technology- Ability to integrate technology into the classroom- Willingness to be a coach or activity advisorFUNCTIONS:- To teach in accordance to the NYS Standards and Regulations- To teach students with disabilities (this could be within a resource room, integrated setting or self-contained setting)- To conduct evaluations for annual reviews- To develop and implement student Individualized Education Plans (IEP)- To implement Behavior Intervention Plans (if required)- To provide students with testing and/or physical/social/emotional accommodations in accordance to the student’s IEP and/or Behavior Plan- To communicate regularly with the student’s support staff and parents- To provide extra help sessions for students as needed- To perform assigned student supervision and record keeping responsibilities- To demonstrate commitment to professional growth- To model for students an interest in life-long learning- To support school wide activities If interested, please respond online at www.olasjobs.org/longisland no later than August 29, 2025.
