WEST BABYLON SCHOOLS ANNOUNCEMENT OF VACANCY 2022-2023 ELEMENTARY READING SPECIALIST PER DIEM SUBSTITUTE LEAVE REPLACEMENT QUALIFICATIONS: • NYS Certification -- Reading K-12 or Literacy Birth-Grade 6 • Experience, knowledge and background related to N.Y.S. learning standards and multiple assessments including formative and benchmark assessments in unit designs • Desire and knowledge to balance students’ social/emotional and academic/intellectual needs • Uses varied instructional methods and assessments to support: o Engaged learning o Higher-order thinking skills o Meaningful, authentic use of knowledge o Integration of 21st century skills o Multiple Intelligences • Ability to conduct assessments to determine student reading levels and create reading plans to match students’ abilities and learning styles • Evidence of strong communication and interpersonal skills with parents, staff and students • Desire and ability to work collaboratively with an academic team including an interdisciplinary approach to lesson design • Knowledge and evidence of unit planning and lesson design using Understanding by Design, differentiated instruction, curriculum mapping and multiple assessment • Evidence of strong classroom management with an emphasis on student engagement and student success in the classroom • Commitment to curriculum development, professional development, flexible teamwork, and instructional technology • Ability to integrate technology into the classroom FUNCTIONS: • Teach elementary intervention schedule using NYS Next Generation Standards in person and/or virtually • Familiar with NYS MTSS Tier 1 classroom teaching strategies and goal setting • Assess students using various computer and paper based formative and summative assessment methods • Coordinate and support school-wide reading intervention and literacy programs • Provide tutorial and/or extra-help assistance for students as needed • Perform assigned student supervision and record-keeping responsibilities • Demonstrate commitment to professional growth • Model for students an interest in life-long learning in subject area and general knowledge • Support school-wide activities through chaperoning, involvement with student activities and/or coaching • To communicate regularly with the student’s support staff and parents • Consult with parents and teachers regarding strategy-based reading instruction and skill improvement • Collaborate with teachers on the use of assessment data to drive instruction If interested, please respond online at www.olasjobs.org/longisland no later than September 9, 2022.
