The Watkins Glen Central School District is in search of a School Social Worker. The School Social Worker supports students’ emotional, social, and academic growth by collaborating with educators, families, and administrators. Reporting to the Director of Special Programs, the social worker develops and implements individualized support plans, conducts social histories for CSE/CPSE referrals, attends mandated meetings, and provides counseling services. Key duties include crisis intervention, home visits, assisting with Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and connecting families to community resources, including through McKinney-Vento support. They also facilitate individual and group counseling, contribute to IEP development, and help design school-wide programs that promote mental health, positive behavior, and academic success. The role involves providing staff and parent workshops, maintaining accurate documentation, and staying current with educational laws and best practices. Requirements include New York State certification, knowledge of special education law, strong communication skills, and school-based experience. Candidates must hold, be in the process of obtaining, or be willing to apply for a valid New York State Education Department provisional or permanent certificate as a School Social Worker for grades PK–12. All new instructional staff are required to attend New Staff Orientation on August 14th & 15th from 8AM-3PM both days.Applicants will be reviewed as they are received with the potential for official Board of Education appointment prior to the application deadline.
