The Warwick Valley Central School District (WVCSD) is seeking an interested candidate to fill an anticipated probationary Library Media Specialist position for the 2023-2024 school year to serve beginning September 1, 2023. The WVCSD serves approximately 3600 students in grades K-12, employing approximately 290 teachers, 300 support staff and 14 administrators. The District's mission is to provide all students with the necessary skills to thrive in the 21st Century as learners, workers and citizens. The WVCSD is comprised of four schools, including two K-4 elementary schools, a middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12). The WVCSD's elementary schools are both recipients of the National Blue Ribbon Schools Award, the Middle School & Sanfordville Elementary have been named 2019 US Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools and the High School was designated a Reward School by the New York State Education Department. Warwick is an historic town located 55 miles north of New York City in Orange County, New York. The Library Media Specialist will provide all students with an enriched library experience that aids in nurturing the love of learning. This position will work collaboratively with teachers and staff to ensure that the use of media and library resources is part of the instructional program and in alignment with the mission, goals and objectives of the school district.Key Duties & Responsibilities:Oversee the day to day operations of the library;Maintain a comprehensive and efficient system for cataloging all library materials and instruct teachers and students on use of the system;Collaborate with classroom teachers as partners in the instructional process;Develop and maintain resources appropriate to the curriculum;Establish procedures for selection, acquisition and circulation of all library resources;Collaborate and co-plan with the literacy specialists working on curriculum related to literacy;Evaluate, promote and use existing and emerging technologies to support teaching and learning;Teach developmentally appropriate informational literacy skills to individual classrooms;Promote the ethical use of information including cyber safety;Promote instructional technology to improve learning;Foster a creative, flexible environment so that the school library is an essential part of the learning community'Perform other related duties as assigned.The successful candidate must have the NYS certification and must apply online at olasjobs.org.
