VOORHEESVILLE CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICTVoorheesville Elementary SchoolVoorheesville, New York 12186 Notice of Vacancy The position of Dean of Students (DOS) is a probationary position that serves as a part of the school’s leadership team who reports to the building principal. The DOS supports the daily operation of the school, specifically in the areas of attendance, behavioral management, disciplinary prevention and intervention services. The DOS works with students, faculty and staff to build and maintain a safe, engaging, and positive school climate.¦ The DOS assists in shaping a school culture of Community and acceptance and warmth while ensuring students internalize the district’s values and goals for student academic success.¦ The DOS will assist building administrators to support an overall instructional program that is meaningful and relevant to the Voorheesville community.Performance Responsibilities include but are not limited to :¦ Serving as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents/caregivers to create a safe, engaging, and positive school climate.¦ Coordinating and assisting in the implementation of DEI practices throughout the building.¦ Assisting with campus supervision and in the development of campus control/security.¦ Collaborating with all faculty, staff, students, parents and caregivers to ascertain and address at-risk student behaviors, providing guidance and motivation for student success. This can include but is not limited to participation in parent and team meetings, membership in the safety committee and Building Leadership Team.¦ Providing recommendations for appropriate revisions of procedures, policies, enrichment opportunities,etc.¦ Supporting the development and rollout of Social Emotional and Equity/Inclusivity initiatives.¦ Assisting with conflict-resolution challenges with the student body, and Collaborating with the building’s administrative team to develop and facilitate appropriate restorative practices and procedures resulting in meaningful, fair, and effective disciplinary actions for students.¦ Assisting in facilitating and implementing positive behavior supports, including restorative practices, RTI,student mediations, social emotional learning strategies, and being an integral part of the school student based intervention team .¦ Assisting in developing the staff’s in-class behavior management strategies¦ Assisting in providing professional development in classroom management strategies, issues of discipline and relationships with students.¦ Meeting with students referred by teachers for behavioral difficulties¦ Engaging students and parents relative to school’s expectations for attendance.¦ As with other positions directly supporting building-level administrators, the Dean of Students shall be expected to perform a wide array of other duties as assigned by the Principal.¦ Has general supervisory responsibility for student activities and extracurricular activities as scheduled with the building principal. Compensation for time spent over the contractual day will be commensurate with VTA contract. Qualifications:¦ Throughout their term of employment, the Dean of Students must possess and maintain one of the following: New York State certification in teaching, psychologist, social work, or school counselor.¦ Demonstrated commitment to preparing every student for academic and life success.¦ Demonstrated awareness of, and a strong willingness to support the VCSD’s commitment to eliminating race, class, disability, and gender as predictors of academic performance, co-curricular participation and discipline.¦ Demonstrated ability in human relations and strong desire to work positively, and sensitively with all students, especially students who present with significant behavioral, emotional, mental health, and/or instructional needs.¦ Demonstrated exceptional level of professionalism, tact, and courtesy.¦ Demonstrated exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.¦ Proven ability to engage and support all students, caregivers, and stakeholders to build an effective and collaborative school community.¦ Working knowledge of federal and New York State Department of Education policies and procedures.Application Procedures:Apply through OLAS or:Write a letter of application indicating interest in position.
