Position Summary:To teach students with special needs the fundamentals of middle school and high school mathematics. Primary Duties & Essential Functions:Deliver the primary instruction to students as scheduledPrepare lesson plans and instructional material based on the New York State StandardsEvaluate and recommend instructional materialEvaluate and record academic progress of each studentMaintain and follow the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for each classified studentMaintain and follow the Behavioral Support Plan (BSP) for each studentCreate and maintain a safe learning environment within the classroomAssess and record program outcomes on agency databaseAssigns tasks and monitors performance of teacher aideAssume other responsibilities that belong to all education staff members such as participation in the behavior management program, insuring the health, safety, and supervision of students, and enforcing the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.Initiate communication and consultation with other staff in response to student concernsCultivate and maintain productive relationships with all agency staffDevelop supportive and nurturing relationships with students while consistently reinforcing program expectationsParticipate fully and effectively in school meetings or teams including Committee on Special Education meetings, Department meetings, and teacher meetings.Manage and maintain classroom resourcesAs this list of duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive, other tasks and responsibilities may be assigned from time to time as business needs require.
