JOB GOAL: The Director of Special Education and Student Services shall be responsible for the planning, organizing and direct implementation of student services programs for grades Kindergarten through Grade 12+. This includes responsibilities for program development, budgeting, staff selection, staff development, staff and program evaluation. Please note this is an Interim position.QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Certification-School District AdministratorSuccessful special education teaching and school administrative experienceAbility to deal effectively with people and problem solveAbility to plan and supervise the work of othersStrong interpersonal and human relations skillsExcellent communication skills (oral and written)Experience with inclusive educational programmingPERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing Special EducationEvaluates existing programs as an ongoing responsibility and recommends changes and additions as needed.Conduct annual review meetings and process IEPsEstablishes procedures for placement, evaluation, assignment, and reappraisal of students with regard to the special education services programDevelops procedures for referral, securing medical reports, psychological examination, and placementSupervises and coordinates home instruction for homebound or hospitalized studentsAssumes responsibility for compiling, maintaining, and filing all reports, records, and other documents legally required or administratively usefulDevelops and maintains complete and cumulative individual records of all children receiving special services or enrolled in special classesSupervises preparation of attendance reports and similar data necessary to reimbursement of funds, collecting tuition for out-of-district students, and similar fiscal mattersParticipates in the planning and implementation of professional development related to inclusive practices, differentiation and interventionMonitors compliance with regard to data standards, maintenance of records and State and Federal reporting requirements.SPECIAL EDUCATION/504:Serves as Chairperson of the District Committees on Special Education and Preschool Special Education.Supervises and coordinates the Committees on Special Education.Serves as the District's 504 Compliance Officer, Medicaid Compliance Officer and Homeless Liaison.Develops, directs, and evaluates District plans, programs (including curriculum) and services for 504 students and students with disabilities.Provides in-service for student service staff and for District staff regarding programs and services for at-risk students, 504 students and students with special needs.Serves as District liaison with BOCES, SEO and Federal agencies regarding student services.Supervises and evaluates staff in conjunction with the building principals.Provides status reports regarding the district’s compliance to the Superintendent and responds to requests for data for analysis purposes.Assists the Superintendent in the coordination, verification and analysis of state and district assessment data.Assists in the direction, implementation and evaluation of instructional improvement initiatives in the area of student services.
