Valley Stream District #30 VACANCY FOR 2026-2027 LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST (PROBATIONARY) Start date: August 31, 2026 Position Description: The successful candidate is child-centered with a demonstrated ability to work with students and deliver instruction in a library or media center setting at the Elementary level. Requirements: Valid NYS teacher certification - Library Media Specialist Experience with teaching and building 21st century skills, including learning and innovation, information, media, and technology literacy. Eligible for hire via Project SAVE requirements Responsibilities include: Develop and deliver a standards-aligned K–6 library curriculum. Teach research skills, information literacy, media literacy, and digital citizenship. Promote reading, early literacy, and student engagement with literature. Collaborate with teachers to support curriculum and instruction. Assist students and staff with print, digital, and technology-based resources. Select, catalog, maintain, and evaluate library materials. Manage circulation, inventory, databases, subscriptions, and library records. Maintain an inclusive, current, and age-appropriate collection. Manage the library budget and resource purchases. Maintain a welcoming, safe, and organized library environment. Participate in professional development, meetings, and District initiatives. Perform other related duties as assigned. Deadline for applications: Ongoing until the position is filled.
