The successful candidate is a certified professional who is uniquely qualified to address the developmental needs of all students through a comprehensive school counseling guidance program designed to address the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. The Valley Stream UFSD #30 is a highly performing school district. The Social Worker will report directly to the Director of Special Services. Starting date: ImmediatelyQualifications:NYS Certification School CounselorExperience working with Special Education Classes and Social Emotional Programs (required)Prior Experience as an Elementary Guidance Counselor (preferred)Bilingual (Urdu/Spanish) preferred Requirements:Through individual, group and classroom activities, the school counselor will monitor the development of academic and social/emotional skills of each student by developing personalized educational plans to ensure current and future successProvide a combination of preventive and supportive services for all students in the academic, social/emotional environment by working collaboratively with administrators, teachers, school social workers, school psychologists, nurses, parents and community members. Provide additional direct student services as necessary such as crisis response, group counseling, and assisting students that exhibit attendance, academic, behavioral or adjustment concerns while encouraging parental involvement;As needed, provide referrals to appropriate licensed professionals;Develop an annual school counseling plan that includes program objectives, activities, program development and maintenance planningCollaborate with the elementary principals, directors, and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction in the building of the master schedule for shared teachersMonitor in collaboration with the principals the students use of Naviance and other guidance tools Assists in developing a positive environment within classrooms and programs to promote positive and cooperative working relationships. Experience in positive behavior management, sensory integration, working with children who have social/emotional delays, behavioral issues, and autism.Investigates DASA and Bullying building level complaintsLead parent workshops, informational sessions, which can be done at different times throughout the day.
