Job Description Job Title: Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership Reports to: Superintendent of Schools Salary: $170,000 – $200,000 Employment Type: Full-Time, 12-Month Position Position Overview The Assistant Superintendent for School Leadership provides visionary, results-driven leadership, supervision, and support to school principals and instructional leaders across the district. This role is central to advancing instructional quality, raising student achievement, and ensuring consistent implementation of district-wide initiatives for school improvement and student success. Working collaboratively with principals, cabinet members, and district administrators, the Assistant Superintendent ensures that school leadership is aligned to the district's strategic vision, fosters a culture of excellence and accountability, and guarantees that all students—regardless of background—have equitable access to a high-quality education. Qualifications Minimum Requirements· Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, Curriculum &Instruction, or a related field.· Valid New York State School District Leader (SDL) or School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS) certification.· 5–10 years of successful school or district leadership experience, preferably including service as a principal in an urban district.· Strong expertise in curriculum, instruction, assessment, and school improvement strategies.· Demonstrated success in leading data-driven initiatives that improved student outcomes.· Experience coaching, evaluating, and developing school leaders. Preferred Qualifications· Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership or a related field.· Experience managing federal and state grants, budgeting, and fiscal planning.· Prior leadership in an urban public school district serving diverse student populations. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & School Improvement· Collaborate with cabinet members to organize and monitor district-wide efforts in school turnaround, improvement, and instructional supports for students.· Use data and evidence-based practices to create a culture of continuous improvement, building capacity among school leaders for collaborative and effective decision-making.· Oversee and direct funding and programming for identified Priority Schools.· Support the design and implementation of new schools and innovative programs aligned to district needs.· Instructional Leadership· Supervise and coach principals to strengthen instructional leadership, student support systems, and community engagement.· Lead professional development for principals and assistant principals, including Leadership Institutes, Learning Walks, monthly leadership meetings, and summer retreats.· Ensure school leaders are proficient in analyzing data to inform instructional practice and interventions.· Support implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS),restorative justice, SEL, and culturally responsive teaching. School Supervision & Accountability· Evaluate principal performance, provide feedback, and make tenure recommendations for probationary principals.· Develop and oversee Principal Improvement Plans where necessary.· Review and monitor School Comprehensive Education Plans (SCEPs) for alignment with the District Comprehensive Improvement Plan (DCIP) and state requirements.· Ensure compliance with all state and federal accountability measures, including DTSDE reports, SIGs, and monitoring processes. Management & Operations· Partner with Human Resources to interview, recommend, and assign new principals and assistant principals.· Collaborate with principals and HR on teacher performance management, including Teacher Improvement Plans.· Oversee school-level budgeting and resource allocation to ensure alignment with district priorities.· Work with central office departments to resolve school-level concerns related to operations, facilities, and finance.· Oversee Extended Learning Opportunity Programs and other enrichment efforts to support student growth.· Serve as designee for the Superintendent as needed. Community Engagement & Equity· Collaborate with families, community partners, and stakeholders to strengthen school-community relationships.· Communicate with parents and community groups regarding school concerns, initiatives, and projects.· Champion equity-focused initiatives that ensure all students have access to rigorous instruction, advanced coursework, and college and career readiness opportunities.· Develop partnerships with local colleges, businesses, and community organizations to expand student pathways.
