Reports to: Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Secondary EducationJob Goal: To ensure that all students are provided with educational experiences that assist them in becoming competent and confident learners.Supervises: Grades 6-12 Administrative Department Heads Grades 6-12 Teacher Leaders K-12 Guidance Counselors and Program Job Responsibilities:Coordinates curriculum development, 6-12, in conjunction with the departmental teams and the Assistant Superintendents.Collaborates with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, K-5 and Director of Pupil Services, as necessary, to provide leadership to instructional leadership teams including training, goal setting, implementation of plans, and evaluation of work. Attends all appropriate meetings.Collaborates with building administrators and Administrative Department Heads to implement all parts of the NYS Learning Standards and other NYS Department of Education requirements.Provides leadership and direction to Administrative Department Heads in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent and Principals.Demonstrates a strong understanding of secondary classroom instructional technology integration.Coordinates the hiring of teaching staff in conjunction with the building principals and Administrative Department Heads.Plans for and ensures, in coordination with building and district leadership, compliance with NYS assessment rules and regulations.Stays current with State mandates and instructional best practices and communicates this information in a timely and effective manner to all applicable parties.Provides leadership and direction to the 6-12 Academic Intervention Services program and its teachers. Collaborates with Director of Curriculum and Instruction, K-5 to update District AIS plan annually.Oversees the departmental budgets 6-12.Maintains a full APPR teacher caseload and collaborates with building and district administrators to support APPR evaluation processes.Coordinates conference attendance by teachers and other staff, 6-12.Collaborates with K-5 Director to develop/update the district’s Professional Development Plan annually. Coordinates in-service programs for teachers, including Superintendent’s Conference Day plans and after school programs.Works with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, K-5 to run the mentoring program, including overseeing the selection of 6-12 mentors, acting to solve problems during the year between 6-12 mentee/mentor pairs: providing professional development to mentors and mentees, and monitoring mentoring logs.Coordinates selection, utilization, and maintenance of all school textbooks and instructional materials used 6-12.Writes and administers grants as appropriate.Serves on District EERC Policy Board.Keeps the Assistant Superintendents, the Superintendent, and Board of Education informed concerning all major developments in the schools through regular reports.Coordinates meetings, committees, and activities that might be necessary to produce an effective instructional program.Complete all other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendents.CRITERIA FOR CANDIDATE SELECTIONDirector of Curriculum and Instruction, 6-12 The candidate has experience and expertise in administration and secondary education.The candidate demonstrates success and skill in problem solving.The candidate demonstrates an awareness of secondary research-based practices and other district initiatives including, but not limited to:K-12 Next Generation Learning StandardsK-12 Assessment and Professional DevelopmentAIS/RTI regulations and best practicesData-Driven InstructionCulturally - Relevant Teaching PracticesThe candidate clearly believes that every student can and will succeed.The candidate has the ability to handle change and works well with others.
