SANY’s Utica Academy of Science is excited to announce the opening of a Social Worker (Grades K-6) for the 2022-2023 Academic Year.We are looking for a dynamic and creative School Social Worker. We have a great environment for new staff members and encourage experienced staff to apply! New York State Certification preferred.Primary Functions:To provide, as a member of the counseling department staff, a comprehensive program for students specifically to provide services to meet the needs of assigned students; consult with teachers, staff and parents to enhance effectiveness in helping students; and to provide support to other school educational programs.Major Job Responsibilities:Supporting students and advocating for their emotional, mental and physical wellbeing;Counseling students;Connecting at-risk youth with helpful resources;Connecting families with helpful resources;Refer students with problems to appropriate program specialists or community agencies.Working with outside agencies to provide support to families;Offering mentoring and suggestions for teachers and other school personnel;Developing and providing crisis intervention strategies to improve student success;Working to maximize coping skills for students in difficult situations;Conducting home visits to provide additional support;Counsel individuals and small groups of students with problems;Consult with teachers, staff and parents regarding the developmental needs of students.Participate in, coordinate and conduct activities that contribute to the effective operation of the counseling program and school;Participate in and facilitate the intervention team process;Plan the counseling program; Pursue continuous professional growth;Substitute for the Dean of Students and Counselor;Follow-up and improve student attendance;Support school-wide character education program;Performs other related duties as required and assigned.Areas of Focus:Group and individual counselingBehavior preventive and corrective action planResponse to Intervention (RTI) Character EducationCounseling service evaluationStudent AttendanceThe School Social Worker’s roleWork with CSE and school service providers to meet IEP needs of children, provide classroom instruction for social and emotional learning, become an active member of PBIS team, provide classroom instruction on careers and goal setting, maintain files of resources for students and employees. AccountabilityTo demonstrate the effectiveness of the program in measurable terms, school social workers analyze school and school counseling program data to determine how students are different as a result of the school counseling program. School social workers use data to show the impact of their programs on student achievement, attendance and behavior and analyze school counseling program assessments to guide future action and improve future results for all students. The performance of the school social worker is evaluated on basic standards of practice expected of school social workers implementing a comprehensive school counseling program.
