Job Posting: Reading Teacher (Middle & High School) Tuckahoe Union Free School District (UFSD) Position: Reading Teacher (Middle & High School) Location: Tuckahoe UFSD, Middle & High School Program Type: Full-Time, Tenure-Track Start Date: September 1, 2026 Compensation: As Per Contract Job Summary Tuckahoe Union Free School District is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Reading Teacher to support literacy development at both the middle and high school levels. This position is ideal for an educator who is passionate about strengthening students’ reading, writing, and critical thinking skills across a range of abilities and academic backgrounds. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting struggling readers while promoting overall literacy achievement in an inclusive and engaging learning environment. Job Description The Reading Teacher provides targeted literacy instruction and intervention to middle and high school students. This role includes working with individuals and small groups to address specific reading challenges, as well as collaborating with classroom teachers to integrate effective literacy strategies across all content areas. The teacher will assess student progress, differentiate instruction, and use data to guide decision-making and improve student outcomes. Job Responsibilities Provide targeted reading instruction to students requiring academic intervention and support Design and implement differentiated literacy instruction aligned with New York State learning standards Assess student reading levels and monitor progress using formal and informal measures Use data to inform instruction and adjust interventions as needed Collaborate with English Language Arts teachers and content-area faculty to support literacy across the curriculum Develop and implement individualized and small-group interventions to address specific reading needs Support students in building skills in comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and written expression Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and instructional strategies Maintain accurate records and contribute to student support team meetings Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute positively to the school community Qualifications Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Literacy (Birth–Grade 12) and English Language Arts (7–12) required Demonstrated expertise in adolescent literacy instruction and intervention strategies Strong understanding of evidence-based reading practices, including phonics, fluency, comprehension, and writing development Experience working with diverse learners preferred Familiarity with data-driven instruction and progress monitoring tools Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills Ability to work effectively as part of a team Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment Equal Employment Opportunity Statement Tuckahoe Union Free School District is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, creed, national origin, citizenship status, age, disability, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, marital status, military status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
