The successful candidate will provide highly individualized instruction to students with significant learning and developmental needs. This role requires close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to support students’ academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and communication needs in an inclusive, structured, and affirming school environment.Job ResponsibilitiesPlan, prepare, and deliver culturally responsive and relevant instruction aligned with students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)Implement specially designed instruction using evidence-based practices, including ABA-informed strategies, to support academic, behavioral, and social skill developmentConduct ongoing assessment of student learning; collect, analyze, and use data to modify instruction and improve outcomesUtilize augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems (e.g., PECS, communication devices, visual supports) to support expressive and receptive communicationDevelop, monitor, and adjust behavioral supports and positive reinforcement systems aligned with Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, school psychologists, social workers, and related service providersCommunicate student progress, strengths, and areas for growth clearly and consistently with families and school staffUtilize instructional technology and materials to differentiate and enhance instructionSupervise and manage the instructional responsibilities of teaching assistants and teacher aidesFoster family engagement through ongoing, respectful, and effective communicationMaintain a classroom environment that is safe, structured, predictable, welcoming, and affirmingSupport students’ social-emotional learning (SEL) and functional life skills developmentComplete all required documentation for compliance, progress monitoring, and reportingQualifications:Valid New York State Special Education Teacher Certification, including one of the following:Special Education K–12Special Education PermanentStudents with Disabilities (7–12)Middle school teaching experience in a special class setting strongly preferredExperience working with students with autism and significant disabilitiesKnowledge of ABA principles, behavior data collection, and behavior support implementationExperience using AAC systems preferredExperience developing and implementing IEPs, including goal writing, progress monitoring, andaccommodationsFamiliarity with New York State Alternate Assessment (NYSAA) preferredStrong classroom management skills and ability to establish a highly supportive learning environmentIn-depth knowledge of Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) practicesThorough knowledge of New York State Learning StandardsDemonstrated understanding of NYS Culturally Responsive–Sustaining Education FrameworksStrong data analysis skills to inform instruction and improve student outcomesApplicants will be screened on a rolling basisThe Tuckahoe Union Free School District, its officers, and its employees do not discriminate against any individuals, including but not limited to students, employees or applicants based on race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, creed, sex, gender (including gender identity and gender expression), sexual orientation, disability, age, citizenship status, marital status, partner status, genetic information, predisposing genetic characteristics, weight, military status or service, political affiliation, or domestic violence victim status.
