Purpose of the Job: The Dean of Students will be responsible for performing their duties, including assisting in creating a positive learning environment for all students. The Dean of Students will help students resolve problems that interfere with their gaining the most significant benefit from the school’s educational opportunities. Essential Job Functions:1. Assist in creating a positive school environment conducive to teaching and learning. 2. Serve as a resource for staff dealing with classroom management issues and student discipline. 3. Assist the principal with the responsibility of protecting the health and welfare of students. 4. Assist the principal in developing and successfully implementing school improvement goals/objectives. 5. Assist in developing and implementing student behavior expectations, plans, and interventions. 6. Work closely with special education representatives and parents to foster positive relations and support student learning. 7. Communicate effectively and openly with parents and the public and continue positive school/community relations and partnerships that enhance district programs and services. 8. Support policies, rules, and regulations established by the State of New York, the Board of Education, and the Trumansburg Central School District Administration. 9. Perform other related duties as assigned during the contracted workday. Qualifications: Education & Experience: 1. Minimum of three years of successful public school teaching experience. Knowledge Skills & Abilities: 1. Demonstrated leadership at the building or district level 2. Demonstrated success working with classroom management and student discipline issues 3. Knowledgeable about behavior plans and special education processes and procedures 4. Participation in the development of school improvement goals and objectives 5. Excellent written and oral communication skills 6. Ability to facilitate and participate in collaborative processesLicenses, Certificates & Special Requirements: Possess a valid NYS Teaching Certificate. Reporting Relationship: The Dean of Students reports directly to the building principal.Offering competitive and commensurate salary, increasing with graduate credits/degree and New York State teaching experience.
