Tiegerman is a special needs program servicing children from preschool through high school. We are looking for a dedicated Middle School teachers (subjects: Social Studies & ELA) to join our program at Woodside, Queens for current and upcoming school years. At Tiegerman, our mission is to identify children with language and autism spectrum disorders early to provide educational programs which will prepare them for a world filled with words, sentences, stories and messages.Tiegerman is a 12 month programHours: 7:30AM-3:45PMResponsibilitiesSupervise students in the classroom and all other areas of the school buildingCreate a classroom environment that is conducive to learningRead, understand, and implement each student’s Individualized Education PlanParticipate in the development of Individualized Education Plans to address the needs of individual studentsPlan instruction and learning objectives aligned with the New York State and Common Core Learning Standards and IEP’s utilizing the school’s established curriculumAdapt instruction and materials to meet the individual needs, strengths, and interests of all studentsConduct ongoing assessment of student progress toward learning objectives and individual goals through formative and summative assessment in order to inform instruction and provide feedback to students, parents, administrators, and school districts.Administer the grade 6-8 New York State English Language Arts, Mathematics and Science Assessments in accordance with established guidelines, instructions, and individual student accommodations for testing.Establish and communicate the responsibilities and expectations of teacher assistantsWrite and submit lesson plans, curriculum maps, annual classroom reports, and other assigned paperwork in accordance with established guidelines and schedulesAccurately interpret and report standardized achievement test scoresManage student behavior in the classroom according to the school wide behavior plan, Behavior Intervention Plans, and student Code of ConductServe as a model for both language and behavior in the classroomMaintain a professional relationship with students, colleagues, administrators, parents, and other community membersCollaborate with members of the educational, therapeutic, and administrative staff to plan and implement instructional behavior management goals and methodsEstablish and maintain open communication and collaborative partnership with parents through conferences and phone conversationsUtilize highly effective communication (oral and written) to provide clear and accurate information and maintain professionalism with students, colleagues, administrators, parents, and all other professionalsParticipate in reflection, self-evaluation, and collaborative discussion with supervisors as part of classroom observation/evaluationParticipate in staff development activities to improve instructional, curriculum, and classroom management, knowledge, and skillsParticipate in various staff meetings as scheduled (i.e., student “staffing”, transdisciplinary meetings, teacher meetings, etc.)Maintain the confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with the law and school policiesReport incidents for the purpose of maintaining the health and welfare of students and the safety of the school environment in accordance with state regulations and school policiesCover late bus dutyComplete student attendance for each period of the school dayTiegerman is an AA and EEO employer.
