The Assistant Superintendent is a full time, 12-month position who provides leadership, supervision and administration of a comprehensive and equitable PreK-12 program aligned with the NYS standards and assessments, district mission, vision, core values and Strategic Blueprint. The Assistant Superintendent should skillfully demonstrate the following competencies to sustain an effective system of shared leadership and responsibility throughout the district:The ability to prioritize student-learning needs over the customs, routines, and established relationships that can stand in the way of necessary change;The strong desire to achieve outstanding results in a short amount of time;The ability to motivate others and influence their behaviors in ways that support the district mission; The power to stay visibly focused and self-assured;The talent to foster collective responsibility and ownership for greater student achievement; Academics, Curriculum and Instruction: Facilitates the development of curriculum and ensures implementation of all high-quality research-based instructional programs. Models continual improvement, demonstrates lifelong learning, and applies new learning to help all students achieveEvaluates and monitors data for the purpose of identifying academic, social-emotional and physical performance of studentsAppraises vendors, programs and resources that are aligned with the NYS standards, District curriculum and the Strategic Blueprint goalsExperience utilizing the PLC model for data analysis The capacity to rigorously create and sustain a well-orchestrated system of ongoing data collection and analysis to inform a continuously responsive and adaptive system of tiered instruction attentive to students’ specific academic needsResponsible for planning Superintendent Conference Days, summer curriculum projects, required trainings for teachers and support staffPlans summer programming based on needs of students K-12 and budgetLeadership: Consults with school based teams to ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of all school programs and activities related to the District’s Strategic Blueprint, mission, vision, and core values Provides technical expertise in the planning and facilitating of professional learning for the district’s staff and administrationGuides collaboration and decision making in areas related to curriculum, instruction, staff development, testing and assessment, mentoring and program trainingSupports and provides consultation and oversight with the MTSS-I systems and processes, including professional development, problem solving and maintenance of an updated MTSS-I GuideWorks cooperatively and productively in a team setting with administrators and staff of our buildings, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learnersMaintains effective communication with local and state educational and service organizationsPrepares and presents presentations to the BOE for meetings and workshops on a variety of topics, including assessment results, programming, SEL, mental healthTitle IX CoordinatorPersonnel:Supervises and evaluates teachers and support staffWorks closely with the Coordinator of Computer Technology in regard to Ed Law 2d, instructional platforms, educational purchases and assessment preparationSupervises the District Data Coordinator and collaborates on systems to provide accurate data to all departmentsWorks in conjunction with leadership to recruit, hire, retain high quality, exemplary and diverse pool of district employeesOversees the orientation and training programs and mentoring for instructional staffCoacts with school staff to address any issues, problems and, when appropriate, involves responsible parties in resolution of personnel issuesBudget:Develops an annual budget proposalAssists in overseeing department budget components for instructional leadershipEnsures that expenditures are consistent with approved funding and prepared budgetWorks with the Office of Finance to determine the use of Title funding annuallyProfessionalism and Other:Possesses high emotional intelligence and strength in forging effective, collaborative relationshipsRemains up to date with current research, NYS laws and initiativesInvests in meetings, seminars and other professional development opportunitiesParticipates in the implementation of District policies, regulations and proceduresQualifications and Professional Requirements:Certified as a NYS School District Leader (or its equivalent)Minimum of 5 years administrative experience preferredEstablished leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback.Belief in the potential of all students and staff with an emphasis on raising academic achievement and instructional excellence of both students and staff.Assumes other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of SchoolsThis job description is intended to convey information essential to understanding the scope of the position and is not an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities, or working conditions associated with it.
