Washington Irving School (Grades 3-5) School Principal (Probationary Track/Effective July 1, 2026) The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are seeking candidates for a dedicated and dynamic Elementary School Principal for our Washington Irving, Grades 3-5 school. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in literacy, math instruction, social-emotional learning, and data-driven decision-making. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to student success and the ability to foster an engaging and positive learning environment for students, staff, and families. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Three (3) years of experience as a building principal/supervisor/administrator/assistant principal, Candidates must demonstrate successful leadership in school improvement and program development, NYS Certification: School Building Leader Minimum of 5 years teaching experience, Proven ability to work collaboratively with educators, parents, and community members, Be familiar with NYS Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework, Experience with and strong knowledge of Multilingual education and Multilingual Learners KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional Leadership: Oversees daily operations, ensuring a safe and supportive school environment, Provide visionary leadership to promote the academic and personal growth of students, Collaborate with teachers, staff, parents, and community members to advance the school’s mission and goals, Aligns all curriculum objectives to the district’s Pillars of Learning and Portrait of a Learner (POL) goals, Oversee and implement educational programs and activities that align with state standards and district policies, Serve as the school’s instructional leader with a dedication and strong background to data-driven decision- making, and be willing and able to serve as a model for best instructional practices, Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop and implement differentiated instruction and targeted interventions to address diverse learning needs, School Culture & Climate: Establish and communicate a clear vision aligned with the District’s vision for a positive, inclusive, and respectful school culture, Have strong conflict resolution, problem-solving and communication skills Facilitate ongoing professional development for staff, ensuring continuous growth and instructional effectiveness Support social-emotional learning (SEL) initiatives to foster student wellness, emotional well-being, and positive relationship-building Be experienced/and or trained in restorative practices, Be experienced in using climate survey data to guide improvement efforts, Communicate regularly and transparently with staff and families, Equity & Inclusion: Ability to lead initiatives that address achievement gaps and systemic inequities, Promote culturally responsive practices across the school, Assess instructional practices are being delivered to English language learners and Students with different abilities and guide staff in delivering research-based, differentiated instruction to promote student access to learning Additional Responsibilities: Visibility: Attend District and community events, Partner with community-based organizations to increase access to partnerships for students, families, and staff Attend Board of Education meetings as needed Salary and benefits: Commensurate with experience as per the TAA contract
