You’ll craft compelling messages, shape our public image and build meaningful connections with the media, stakeholders, partners and families. This is a fast-paced, hands-on role for a creative communicator who thrives on variety — from writing and creating digital content to coordinating events and consulting on crisis communications. You will help ensure that our students’ achievements, staff excellence, and community partnerships are celebrated and shared. PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Serve as the primary communications resource for school district officials and BOCES program leaders, aligning messaging with organizational priorities.Plan, produce, and distribute engaging content across digital platforms (web, social media, email, mass notifications) and print publications. Write, edit, and proofread speeches, press releases, correspondence, and marketing copy for diverse audiences.Capture and edit photography and video to support storytelling and brand visibility. Deliver presentations, represent the organization at events, and help guide crisis communications efforts when needed.Coordinate press conferences, media interviews, and public events; cultivate relationships with journalists, trade media, and community partners.Monitor media coverage and campaign performance; provide reports and recommendations to improve outreach.Ensure all communications meet brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and legal/ethical requirements. CIVIL SERVICE QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor’s Degree and three (3) years of work experience in which the primary function of the position was copywriting or news writing for radio, TV, newspapers, publications, advertising agencies or writing relating directly to the community/public relations ** field.** DEFINITION: Community/public relations is defined as experience acting as a liaison with public officials, corporations, other agencies, new media, and/or the public, which included responsibility for planning, preparing, and distributing written materials designed to promote understanding or general knowledge about activities, services, policies, or objectives.SUBSTITUTION: A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, or Public Relations or a Master’s Degree my be substituted for one year of the work experience specified above.*Priority given to candidates who are currently on a Civil Service List for this title. Candidates must have taken or be eligible to take the civil service exam for this title.
