Position: Adaptive Physical Education TeacherSchedule: 10 month (Sept – June) plus 6-week (July-August) extended school yearReports to: Supervisor of EducationStart Date: Immediate St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf in Brooklyn seeks an Adaptive Physical Education Teacher to ensure that physical education programs are developed and implemented in accordance with the NYS Learning Standards and the individual needs of every student. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop and implement the physical education program in accordance with NYS Learning Standards for Physical EducationEngages students to develop an appreciation of the importance of physical education.Use a variety of instructional techniques appropriate for the ages and skill level of the students.Inclusive of adapted PE techniques and methods PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONSNew York State Certified Physical Education Teacher.New York State Certified Teacher of the Deaf or New York State Certified Teacher of Special Education.Minimum of Advanced rating on SLPI. PERSONAL QUALITIESCapacity to manage multiple responsibilities and competing demandsDemonstrated ability to work in a calm and respectful mannerCommitment to fostering a collaborative, professional, and respectful work environmentMaintain a positive, encouraging attitude to motivate others. COMPENSATIONSt. Francis offers a competitive salary commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience, certification, and education. The salary scale range for this position is $54,000 to $105,000.ABOUT THE SCHOOLSt. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf (SFDS) is a nonpublic, New York State supported school for Deaf students from birth through 8th grade located in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn. SFDS offers a Parent Infant Program (Ages 0-3), an Early Childhood Program (Ages 3-5) and a School Age Program (Grades K-8). Students attending SFDS are Deaf, DeafBlind and Deaf Disabled.SFDS utilizes best practices from current research in Deaf Education.
