Position: Intervener Para/Teacher AssistantReports to: Classroom Teacher/ Educational SupervisorJob Term: Temporary, July 5, 2022 – August 15, 2022 St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf in Brooklyn seeks a Intervener Para/Teacher Assistant to provide direct support to a student with DeafBlindness for all or part of the instructional day for the two month Summer program. The Intervener Para/Teacher Assistant will substitute for a Teacher Assistant when the assigned student is absent. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES Follows the student's IEP and the modifications and instructional techniques recommended by related service staffBecomes proficient in students' individual communication methods and strategiesCreates instructional materials as neededAccompanies and supports the student during out of classroom activities such as related services and SpecialsCollaborates in a team model on issues related to DeafBlindnessFollow best practices as per Open Hands, Open Access (OHOA): Deaf-Blind Intervener Learning Modules.Assist with bus duty, breakfast, and lunchPrepare materials as requested to aid in instructing the studentsAssist students with toileting, as necessaryAssist in implementing classroom routines and student management PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONSHigh School DiplomaSign Language Proficiency, requiredNew York State Teacher Assistant Certification, requiredNICE Certification, preferred PERSONAL QUALITIESCapacity to manage multiple responsibilities and competing demandsDemonstrated ability to work in a calm and respectful mannerMaintain a positive, encouraging attitude to motivate othersCandidate must enjoy working with children of all abilities COMPENSATIONSt. Francis offers a competitive salary commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience. The gross salary range for this position is $145.00 - $195.00 per day depending on certification and experience. ABOUT THE SCHOOLFounded in 1960, St. Francis de Sales School for the Deaf (SFDS) is a privately owned, state supported school for Deaf students from birth through 8th grade located in the Prospect Heights section of Brooklyn. SFDS offers a Parent Infant Program (Ages 0-3), an Early Childhood Program (Ages 3-5) and a School Age Program (Grades K-8). Students attending SFDS are Deaf, Deafblind, Functionally Deaf and Deaf with Additional/Multiple Disabilities including Deaf with Autism and Deaf with Intellectual Disabilities.
