Provide individual and group therapy sessions per IEP requirements as well as art educationand enrichment for the entire school community. To protect the safety of the individuals we support and staff, Springbrook requires new employees to be current on all recommended vaccinations, including but not limited to: COVID-19.Primary Duties and Responsibilities: • To help students in individual or group art therapy work toward improved cognitive growth, emotional control, the mastery of sensory-motor skills, and a positive adjustment to the classroom experience. • Develop a program which allows students to safely express confusing and overwhelming feelings while building a sense of cooperation, community, and interpersonal relatedness.• Provide opportunities for students with self-esteem problems to establish a positive self- concept through the mastery of art skills.• Provide experiences for students with disruptive behaviors to contain impulses through art therapy activities.• Plan for and provide instruction in art that meets the needs of all students, meets SED requirements, and exposes students to leisure and vocational experiences. • Continually evaluate the program and assessment of individual and school wide needs and progress.• Maintain appropriate cumulative records, write reports, maintain goals and objectives in the IEP, and evaluate accordingly.• Collaborate with other therapists and teachers in monitoring student growth as part of an interdisciplinary team.• Act as a facilitator and point person for community and Springbrook art exhibits and events.• Other duties as assigned.Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements: • Degree in Art Therapy, knowledge and background in working with developmentally disabled individuals is preferred.• Bachelor’s degree required in related field, Master’s degree preferred. • NYS Teaching Certification in Art or Special Education.• Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills. • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.• Meet the requirements to drive Springbrook vehicles as required. • Be able to perform all physical interventions.
