Provide counseling to students. Participates on the student interdisciplinary team.To protect the safety of the individuals we support and staff, Springbrook requires new employees to be current on all recommended vaccinations, including but not limited to: COVID-19.Principle Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide individual counseling with assigned students - amount of time determined by CPSE/CSE, as a result of a evaluation recommendation.• Meet with teachers, residential leaders and case managers of students as needed.• When clinically indicated, counselor meets with ID team to facilitate appropriate training and/or intervention for parent/family.• Refer unrelated concerns or coordination of service needs to Service Coordinator.• Facilitate defusion and resolution of crisis and unusual/dangerous situations as they arise in conjunction with Teacher, Case Manager and Education Department Head.• Write IEP goals and collect data for each assigned CPSE/CSE student and attend any meeting when practical and necessary.• Keep appropriate documentation (using Springbrook format) of student’s treatment, contacts made and reports generated for use of interdisciplinary team and outside agencies as appropriate. Includes notes and billing for EI and preschool.• Participates in Child Study /Interdisciplinary Team meetings: discussion, developing strategies, and plans for students referred by teachers and other school personnel.• Document ongoing communication using participant log database.• Be available for staff development and training coordinated by Education Director/designee.• Adhere to agency philosophies and policies.• Interpret and support the philosophy, goals, and policies of the Springbrook to students, families, staff and the community.• Assure that confidentiality and individual rights are honored.• Perform other duties as may be assigned by Director of Education.Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements: • Master’s Degree in Counseling or other related discipline required.• New York State Certification in School Counseling required. • Knowledge and background in working with developmentally disabled individuals is preferred.• Duties require professional verbal and written communication skills. • Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.• Meet the requirements to drive Springbrook vehicles as required. • Be able to perform all physical interventions.
