We are hiring a full-time cleaner. This position primarily works from 3pm-11:30pm when school is in session, and day shift during the summer and when school is not in session. CLEANER Department: Various Classification: Labor Adopted: 09/19/1983 Revised: 09/06/2005 By: Chemung County Civil Service Commission DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine work requiring efficient performance of simple cleaning tasks of an arduous nature. The work of employees in this class involves the thorough execution of tasks, which follow a well-established routine. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (The following work activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall an employee be limited to only those examples listed here.) Dusts chairs, tables and other furniture; Washes windows, walls, woodwork, water closets, tubs and bowls; Sweeps, mops and washes floors; Gathers and disposes of refuse; Uses heavy mechanical equipment in stripping, waxing and polishing floors; May open or secure buildings; May varnish, shellac and polish furniture and brass; May tend the furnace; May be required to perform minor maintenance tasks such as unskilled painting, or carpentry; Replaces lights, hangs window shades and venetian blinds; Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, soap, toilet paper and trash can liners; Performs other routine housekeeping tasks as needed. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; ability to read and write, thoroughness; cleanliness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
