Spencer-Van Etten is hiring a full-time 40 hour/week cleaner. This position has a tentative shift of 3pm-11:30pm, Monday-Friday, when school is in session and 7am-3:30pm when not in session. Position includes health insurance (or buyout), flex account, vacation/personal/sick time and is part of the NYS Employees Retirement System. CLEANER Department: VariousClassification: LaborAdopted: 09/19/1983Revised: 09/06/2005By: Chemung County Civil Service Commission DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine work requiring efficient performance of simple cleaning tasks of an arduous nature. The work of employees in this class involves the thorough execution of tasks, which follow a well-established routine. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (The following work activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall an employee be limited to only those examples listed here.)Dusts chairs, tables and other furniture;Washes windows, walls, woodwork, water closets, tubs and bowls;Sweeps, mops and washes floors;Gathers and disposes of refuse;Uses heavy mechanical equipment in stripping, waxing and polishing floors;May open or secure buildings;May varnish, shellac and polish furniture and brass;May tend the furnace;May be required to perform minor maintenance tasks such as unskilled painting, or carpentry;Replaces lights, hangs window shades and venetian blinds;Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, soap, toilet paper and trash can liners;Performs other routine housekeeping tasks as needed. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to get along well with others; ability to read and write, thoroughness; cleanliness; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
