DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is manual work requiring skill in the operation of a large vehicle. Work involves driving a refrigerated food van to deliver food, supplies, equipment and other miscellaneous items related to food service to the various schools in the school district. Details of the work are clearly defined and require little or no diversion from established routine. Work is performed under the general supervision of the School Lunch Manager. Supervision may be exercised over Food Service Helpers assigned to truck. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (The following work activities are listed as examples only and in no event shall an employee be limited to only those examples listed here:) Loads trucks daily with lunches and supplies;Transports food, supplies and other items to schools in the district;May routinely deliver locked bank bags to the schools and pick up full money bags, take them to the bank, and pick up empty bags.Insures proper food storage temperatures of truck and storage areas;Responsible for maintenance of various food storage areas;May be required to courier mail and office supplies;May perform other duties as directed by the School Lunch Manager;May be required to perform maintenance department functions during the summer months when food services operations are not in operation; FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic laws and regulations; knowledge of proper storage temperatures for various food types; good knowledge of the local geographic area; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; ability to maintain simple records; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Eligibility for the appropriate level New York State Driver's License at the time of application. Possession of license at the time of appointment and maintenance of license throughout employment.
