The Somers Central School District is anticipating an opening for a SEL Interventionist: School Counselor/Psychologist/Social Worker or the 2023-2024 School Year. The successful candidate must have certification in Counseling, or School Social Worker; deep knowledge of SEL competencies, research, curriculum, strategies, and learning and instruction frameworks; and knowledge of positive behavioral supports, de-escalation strategies, and trauma-informed practices. Position Description:The Counseling Interventionist will help students to learn, practice, and demonstrate social-emotional skills for greater personal and academic success. The Counseling Interventionist will primarily support students with identified social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The Counseling Interventionist is responsible for explicitly teaching social-emotional learning lessons to students via individual, small group and classroom settings, using evidence-based strategies and programs (e.g., Social Skills Groups and Community Circles) to develop the CASEL competencies of self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. The Counseling Interventionist will partner with teachers, administrators, and parents to discuss students’ individual needs and to develop and implement intervention plans. Furthermore, the Counseling Interventionist will lead the Tier 1 support school-wide program identification, implementation, and ongoing professional learning.ResponsibilitiesPartner with SMS Wellness Team members to provide social-emotional learning instruction, including opportunities for students to practice more effective emotion regulation strategies and conflict resolution skills.Research, design, and implement a Peer Mediation program.Support the Tier 1 wellness program coordination and professional learning.Provide wellness checks on all students identified at Tier 2 or 3 of wellness.Proactively identify ways to increase inclusion opportunities for students.Meet and collaborate with staff, administrators, and parents to understand student needs, and design and implement appropriate interventions.Gather and analyze data to monitor student progress towards goals.Provide instruction on executive functioning skills with individuals and groups of students, and support staff in implementing strategies.Engage in ongoing professional learning and stay current with SEL research and best practices to be implemented in the classroom.
