Notably, our district is situated in close proximity to the Shinnecock Nation, an Indigenous sovereign nation whose historical and ongoing contributions enrich the cultural landscape of our region. The district emphasizes academic excellence, promoting the knowledge, values, and skills necessary for responsible citizenship.Job Summary:The High School Principal is the chief instructional and administrative leader of Southampton High School, responsible for all aspects of its operation, including daily activities, curriculum, staff management, and fostering a safe, productive, and inclusive learning environment. The Principal will uphold high standards and expectations for all students and staff, ensuring alignment with district goals and state and federal regulations. This role requires exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, staff, parents, and the broader, diverse community.Serving as a high school principal on the East End of Long Island presents unique opportunities and challenges. Beyond the core responsibilities of any principal, key functions in this region include: Instructional Leadership: * Curriculum and Pedagogy Enhancement: Lead the ongoing review, development, and implementation of a rigorous and relevant curriculum and programs that meets the diverse needs of all students, aligns with state standards, and prepares them for college and career readiness. This includes fostering innovative teaching practices and integrating technology effectively. Special emphasis will be placed on developing and implementing an inclusive curriculum that reflects the diverse backgrounds, histories, and perspectives of our student body and local community, including the rich cultural heritage and contributions of our diverse community. * Curriculum Development for a Globalized Future: Given the region's interconnectedness and the diverse aspirations of its students, the Principal must ensure the curriculum prepares students for a variety of post-secondary pathways, whether it be prestigious universities, vocational training, or local industries. This includes a focus on critical thinking, problem-solving, and global competencies, while also valuing and incorporating local heritage and knowledge systems from our diverse community. * Teacher Development and Coaching: Provide strong instructional leadership by actively observing classrooms, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating professional development opportunities that enhance teaching effectiveness and student learning outcomes. * Assessment and Data Utilization: Guide staff in the effective use of a variety of assessment data (formative, summative, standardized) to diagnose student learning needs, differentiate instruction, and monitor progress. Champion a culture of continuous improvement informed by evidence. * Promoting Academic Rigor and Equity: Ensure that all students, regardless of background or prior achievement, have access to challenging coursework and support systems that enable them to reach their full academic potential. Actively work to close achievement gaps. * Talent Attraction and Retention: The high cost of living and housing on the East End can make it challenging to attract and retain highly qualified educators. The Principal must be innovative in recruiting strategies, fostering a positive work environment, and advocating for staff support to minimize turnover. * Addressing Diverse Socioeconomic Needs: While known for its affluent areas, the East End also encompasses communities with varying socioeconomic backgrounds. The Principal must be adept at understanding and addressing the diverse needs of all students, ensuring equitable access to resources and opportunities. This includes navigating the complexities of supporting students from different backgrounds, including those with limited English proficiency and students from the Shinnecock Nation. * Community Engagement and Partnerships: The East End has strong community ties and a highly engaged parent population. The Principal will be expected to build and maintain robust relationships with parents, community organizations, local businesses, and cultural institutions to enrich the educational experience and garner support for school initiatives. This includes fostering respectful and collaborative relationships with community leaders, seeking their input, and exploring opportunities for partnership that benefit our students and community. * Fiscal Prudence and Resource Management: Effectively managing the school's budget and resources is paramount. The Principal will need to demonstrate strong fiscal awareness, make data-driven decisions, and seek creative solutions to resource allocation to maximize educational impact. * Maintaining a Positive School Climate: Cultivating a positive school climate that promotes student well-being, academic achievement, and responsible citizenship is crucial. This includes addressing issues of discipline, fostering a sense of belonging, and supporting mental health initiatives. * Leading in a Tourist-Driven Area: The seasonal nature of the East End can present unique challenges, such as fluctuating population dynamics, employee commuting challenges, and the need to accommodate various community events and demands while maintaining academic focus.Qualifications: * Valid New York State Certification as School District Leader (SDL) or School Building Leader (SBL). * Master's degree or higher in Educational Leadership or a related field. * Demonstrated successful experience in school administration, preferably at the high school level, with a strong emphasis on instructional leadership. * Strong commitment to academic excellence and student success. * Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Proven ability to foster a positive and inclusive school culture. * Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and instructional best practices, with a demonstrated commitment to developing and implementing an inclusive curriculum that respects and incorporates diverse perspectives. * Adept fiscal awareness for budget analysis and management. * Experience navigating and implementing philosophies based on the NYSED Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework. * Knowledge of ELL/Dual Language Programs and Curriculum and Technology advancement. * Ability to effectively supervise, evaluate, and develop staff. * Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities. * Demonstrated expertise in data-driven leadership, including the ability to: * Collect, analyze, and interpret various forms of quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., student performance, attendance, discipline, climate surveys) to identify trends, inform decision-making, and drive school improvement. * Utilize data to set strategic goals, develop action plans, and monitor progress towards achieving academic and operational objectives. * Empower teachers and staff to use data effectively to differentiate instruction, personalize learning, and improve student outcomes. * Communicate data insights clearly and compellingly to diverse stakeholders. * Proficiency in data analysis and reporting to inform instructional practices.Responsibilities: * Provide inspirational leadership to all faculty, staff, and students, fostering a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement. * Oversee all daily operations of Southampton High School, ensuring a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment. * Develop, implement, and maintain rigorous curriculum standards aligned with state and national guidelines, with a focus on inclusive curriculum development that celebrates diversity and cultural understanding. * Supervise, evaluate, and support all instructional and support staff, promoting professional growth and development. * Manage the school's budget, allocate resources effectively, and oversee facility maintenance and improvements. * Establish and enforce clear student behavioral expectations and disciplinary procedures, focusing on restorative practices and student growth. * Collaborate with parents, community members, and district stakeholders to promote student success and school-community partnerships, including fostering strong relationships with the Shinnecock Nation. * Analyze student achievement data to inform instructional decisions and implement targeted interventions. * Oversee all extracurricular activities, athletics, and student support services. * Ensure compliance with all district policies, state, and federal regulations. * Effectively communicate with all constituents, including the Superintendent, Board of Education, staff, students, and parents. * Collaborate on the development and implementation of current Building Safety Plan and emergency preparedness procedures.*Perform other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and the Superintendent of Schools as appropriate to the positionTo Apply:Interested candidates should apply via OLAS no later than 07/16/25
