The ideal candidate will provide student support services and special education leadership that creates, implements and heightens achievement for all Southampton studentsStart Date: July 1, 2024Qualifications:Valid New York State Certification as School District Leader (SDL), School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Administrator (SDA), School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS)Demonstrated leadership ability in school administration, special education, program development and evaluation, universal design, and staff supervision and evaluationThorough knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to the education of students with disabilities including but not limited to Part 200 Regulations, IDEA, ADA, and Section 504Minimum of five years of experience in special education or related field; minimum three years of administrative experience strongly preferredDemonstrated record of working collaboratively with administrators, staff, parents, students, and community.Successful experience working with a diverse student population.Excellent verbal and written communication skillsReports to: Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and InstructionJob Objective: To provide student support services and special education leadership that creates, implements and heightens achievement for all studentsSupervises:CSE / CPSE Chairperson, special education teachers K-12, social workers, speech language pathologists, school psychologists, teaching assistants and teacher aides assigned to the department, clerical staff members assigned to the department and agency personnel providing services to our studentsLiaison to the BOCES programs, private schools, and special schools as related to special education programsResponsibilities:Oversees and coordinates special education program development, budget design and implementationActs as a student advocate to ensure the rights of all students are respected and that all have equal access to the educational opportunities necessary to meet their needs and abilitiesActs as District chairperson and coordinates the work of the Committee on Special Education and prepare recommendations for the assignment of pupils for special services for the approval of the Superintendent and Board of EducationActs as District chairperson and works collaboratively with the Committee on Preschool Special Education chairpersonAssists in the recruitment and selection of special education staff, speech and language staff, school psychologists, paraprofessionals, and other related service providers; work closely with principals in the evaluation of these staff membersDevelops and provides oversight to the summer Extended School Year Program.Works closely with the Director of Counseling in serving the counseling and mental health needs of studentsCompletes reports and grants as required by State Education Department and Federal Government within the given deadlinesCollaborates with the Counseling Department, Instructional Administrators, Leadership Teams, Neighborhood Aides, Shinnecock Home/School Communication Aides and non-instructional administrators.Observes and evaluates staff in accordance with the local collective bargaining agreement, New York State law and locally established proceduresProvides oversight and development of and execution of IDEAWorks closely with Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and Coordinator of Academic Support Services on Section 504 meeting and compliance issuesOversees preparation of the annual budget requests for special education and make recommendations to the SuperintendentWorks cooperatively with administrators and staff on student registration and residency compliance issues.Implements strategies to promote a cooperative spirit among the departmentPrepares and supervises the creation of all related paperwork, reports, and records as required by lawKeeps the Superintendent and Principals informed and advises, assists, and works cooperatively with Principals and all other administrators in school-related mattersPrepares and updates demographic and enrollment projections for special educationEnsures due process procedures in connection with Committee on Special Education and Committee on Preschool Special Education activities, and pre-referral servicesEnsures the School District’s compliance with Public Health Law on special education matters through work with school physicians and nursesServes on District and school-wide committees, participates in District activities, and represents the District as directed by the SuperintendentMaintains a high level of competence in the field of special education, remaining current in issues related to the areas of responsibilityMaintains a high level of personal integrity and a strong work ethicPerforms other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent or as required by law, code, and regulations / School Board PolicyCollaborates with Instructional Administrators on special education programming and staffing in each of the school buildings.Other related duties as requiredSalary Range: Competitive for location $164,000 - $174,000Application Procedure: Applicants MUST apply via OLAS ONLYPosting Date: 03/08/2024Application Deadline: 03/27/2024
