The South Country School District is seeking a highly passionate, innovative, and motivated educator to apply for this key leadership position with the ability to lead and be responsible for the overall supervision and effectiveness of the English, Reading, and Social Studies Programs K-12. The Director of Humanities is responsible for providing academic leadership and administrative oversight for the Humanities Department. This individual will foster an environment of intellectual inquiry, collaboration, and ensure the development and delivery of high-quality programs within the humanities department that align with skills needed as a portrait of a graduate. The District Director of Humanities reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability. Responsibilities:Provide visionary leadership to the Humanities Department, fostering a culture of academic excellence and inclusivitySupervise and evaluate English, Reading, and Social Studies staff K-12 (with principals)Work cooperatively with central and building administrators, lead teachers, coordinators, chairpeople, teachers, and support staffFoster a collegial environment where faculty and staff are encouraged to pursue professional learning, teaching innovations, and community engagement.Promote a student-centered approach to education, ensuring that students in the humanities are provided with the tools, guidance, and support necessary for academic success and intellectual development.Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, administration, and external stakeholdersInterview and recommend prospective teachers as openings occurDevelop, implement and monitor the English, Reading, and Social Studies curriculum and programs in conjunction with State guidelines and District priorities Development of annual departmental objectives and action plansCollect and examine data to inform instruction and determine program success in achieving its goalsWork with instructional teams to develop and implement assessments that measure student progress and achievement in HumanitiesAnalyze student achievement data and prepare reportsOrientation and mentoring of new staffCreate and lead professional development programs and oversee literacy committee with Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, and Accountability Ensure effective implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and continuous improvement of academic interventions related to ELA and reading Promote, sustain, and grow the districts K-12 civic readiness initiative that aligns with state standards and promotes students as active, informed, and responsible citizensFoster a culture of literacy across the district ensuring student lifelong reading and writing practices districtwidePurchasing, distribution, maintenance and storage of materials and equipmentConduct departmental meetings, ELA coordinator meetings, and attend periodic after-school meetingsPromote program articulation for departmental faculty and staff K-12Coordinate the department’s activities with those of other departmentsWork with and be available for parents/guardians and students as needed Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his designeeRequisites:Candidates must demonstrate leadership ability and a willingness to devote time beyond the regular school day in the performance of responsibilities.
