Jr/Sr High School Principal 7-12 Qualifications:Master’s Degree or higher with a major in education administration.Valid certification to practice as a High School Principal in New York State Schools.Four years successful teaching, school counseling, or administrative experience.Knowledge and experience with curriculum and successful teaching strategies. Reports to:The Junior Senior High School Principal will report directly to the Superintendent of Schools. Supervises:Teaching and support personnel working within the 7-12 Jr/Sr. High School as well as the secretarial support staff and other staff assigned. Job Function: The assignment of tasks shall be at the discretion of the Superintendent operating within the specifications of Board Policy. Administer and control the Jr./Sr school and operate the school as an effective segment of the community’s educational enterprise conducive to working and learning. The Jr./Sr. High School Principal is a key member of the Superintendent’s cabinet and fulfills the responsibilities stated below. The Jr./Sr. High School Principal of Salem Central School will: Maintain a supportive and caring learning environment for all students.Create opportunities for students both before and after graduation, promote student success through focused, intentional academic program, and engender a sense of service to both school and community.Be student focused, setting high expectations for student achievement, growth and behavior.Be an organized leader with a “servant leadership” mindset who can see the big picture and bring energy and enthusiasm to the school district and community.Be passionate about connecting with teachers, students, and parents.Be excellent at written and oral communication as well as presentation.Be skilled at identifying problems and brainstorming potential solutions.Be empathetic and sociable.Be able to attend school functions after hours.Motivate and inspire professional staff to achieve high expectations. Acts as an ambassador for the school to the community. Performance Responsibilities: Supervise instruction and curriculum.Utilize knowledge of best practices, emerging research, and the use of technology to enhance instructional strategies and academic programming.Supervise all personnel assigned to the Jr./Sr. High School.Develop a pertinent annual budget which is consistent with the fiscal guidelines provided by the Business Office, Superintendent and Board of Education.Complete the Annual Professional Performance Review documents with the required observations of staff and recommendations as needed.Promote and encourage professional development and personal growth of teachers.Schedule certified and non-certified personnel to various assignments necessary to the smooth functioning of the school.Maintain pupil personnel records in coordination with guidance services.Complete such reports as are requested by the Superintendent and the State Department of Education.Exercise control over school property and equipment.Evaluate the instructional program and make recommendations to the Superintendent.Build positive school/community relations by working with PTA and various community agencies.Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or his designee.
