The Shoreham-Wading River Central School District is seeking a qualified and dedicated American Sign Language (ASL) 1:1 Interpreter to serve as a leave replacement from 9/9/2026 to on or about 11/5/2026 at the high school level. The interpreter will provide direct communication access and support to a student throughout the school day, promoting full participation in the academic and school environment. Responsibilities Provide accurate and effective ASL interpretation for a student in classroom, instructional, and school-related settings. Interpret communication between the student and teachers, staff, peers, and other members of the school community. Facilitate the student's access to classroom instruction, discussions, presentations, assemblies, and other school activities. Collaborate with teachers, related-service providers, administrators, and other members of the student's educational team. Support the student's independence, self-advocacy, and meaningful participation in the school environment while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. Perform other related duties consistent with the role as assigned. Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English. Training and certification in ASL interpreting required. Experience interpreting in an educational or high school setting preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills. Must meet all applicable New York State and District requirements for employment in the position.
