Elementary Behavior Specialist - One year special assignment for the 2022-2023 school year. Profile of a Shenendehowa Employee Job Description: Highly qualified intervention specialist with knowledge and skills necessary to assist individuals, groups and systems through the application of positive behavior management and tiered supports. The Behavior Specialist will collaborate with members of the school crisis teams to support the implementation of counseling and behavioral intervention to address students' unique needs including collaboration with families and community agencies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Work with school staff, students, parents and community agencies to implement Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) to improve student behavior, attendance and engagement; Assisting staff in understanding the function of behavior and how to implement all tiers of positive behavioral interventions and support, including defining and measuring behavior, understanding principles of reinforcement, teaching new behavior; assisting students in assessing their own work and behavior and implementing strategies to reduce undesired behavior; Work with individual teachers, groups of teachers and/or the entire staff on issues such as: crisis intervention, learning and collaboration issues, and factors that can affect development and implementation of interventions; Work cooperatively with building administrators to promote positive student behavior by providing professional development that focuses on evidence-based strategies and modeling of instructional practices to support teachers in their implementation of positive behavior support in their classroom; Monitor and analyze data to create action plans aimed at continuous improvement; Inform and assist families with obtaining community-based services, resources and activities; Engage in crisis counseling in accordance with established district protocol; Engage in on-going professional learning to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students, targeted students and students who represent sub-group populations; Maintain knowledge of school district programs, current laws, regulations, school board policies and procedures, as well as emerging trends and current research in school engagement & attendance; Knowledge of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and Restorative Practices, including the implementation of these strategies to support students May require some flexibility in schedule to meet student needs Other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.Certifications Area(s): NYS Special Education Teacher or School Counselor or School Social Worker or School PsychologistLocation: District Application Deadline: September 30, 2022 Effective: October 17, 2022 – June 30, 2023
