Director of Professional LearningOverview of Role: The Director of Professional Learning will serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet (DLST). Work directly with the Superintendent, members of the DLST, building and department leaders to support the effective and efficient provision of professional development opportunities aligned with the Profile of a Shen Employee, in support of the district goals and essential objectives. Proactively communicate with the Superintendent and members of the District Leadership Support Team (DLST). Provide leadership to assure that applicable laws and regulations are followed. Maintain a positive and routine community with parents and community partners to provide information and receive feedback. Oversight of District Wide Professional Learning (60% of Job Focus)Serve as a member of the District Leadership and Support Team under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent of Schools.Visionary Leader of Teaching and Learning using cutting edge research on professional development, training, and coaching to support the development and realization of a progressive, innovative learning experience for students that accelerates the full realization of district goals and mission and positions students for success in college and career. Coordinator of the Professional Learning Department: Supervise coaches and collaborate with administrators to set the direction for professional learning across the district, for instructional and non-instructional personnel, ensuring strong connection between district goals, professional learning, and performance outcomes. Oversight of the Teacher Induction and New Teacher Mentor Programs: Coordinate the seamless progression of sessions and resources teacher induction program (4 years), and Mentor/Protege program. Design Components and Expectations for each cohort and establish Mentors and Proteges pairs.Professional Learning Committee: Develop year long plan and meeting agendas for the district Professional Learning Committee to gather stakeholder input and plan professional learning that supports the full realization of district goals.Professional Learning Plan: Update the district plan annually, using the plan to drive innovation in both the delivery and content of professional learning for all employees, instructional and non-instructional personnel.Train Substitutes districtwide to support their ability to meet district expectations and provide continuity in the role they are hired to fill.Monitor the Impact of Professional Learning: Design systems to ensure professional learning is producing a return on investment and positively impacting the whole of the organization. II. Oversight of Grants (10% of Job Focus) Mentor Teacher Internship Program (MTIP) Grant: Design and submit the multi-year grant including all re-applications and required documents and budget monitoring to ensure effective use of the grant in support of teacher onboarding.Title II Grant: Annual oversight of the grant to further professional learning and collaboration with local private schools in accordance with grant requirements. III. Data Collection & Analyses for Professional Learning (10% of Job Focus)Data Review: In collaboration with the Director of Student Learning and Data Accountability, review of student outcome data at all levels to drive professional learning and identify areas of priority to support all students and subgroups of students are meeting their full potential.Gather Qualitative Feedback and Date: Develop and administer informal student and staff surveys and engagements designed to foster inclusivity, increase awareness and develop school cultures that support learning and positive experiences. Such opportunities shall be provided through community building events (e.g., Voice Project, Day of Dialogue) and social emotional learning activities such as restorative circles that promote prosocial behaviors and higher levels of engagementAcceleration and Placement: coordinate testing and data analysis for student acceleration and testing placement, and working with teachers to differentiate to meet the needs of identified students. IV. Administration and Supervision (20% of Job Focus)Collaborate with the Office of Human Resources: Assist with planning and evaluating employee orientation and on-boarding practices, and provide target professional development and coaching to address specific personnel growth scenarios.Review and Analyze aggregated Employee Evaluation Data: Design professional learning to support increased and ongoing effectiveness in every role.Professional Performance Reviewer: Conduct teacher and staff observations, as assigned, in accordance with Annual Professional Performance Review requirements.Perform other tasks consistent with the job goals and major responsibilities of this position as directed by the Superintendent of Schools and/or designee.
