The ideal candidate will be responsible for strategizing and implementing effective solutions across various criteria to foster a thriving athletic environment for our students and community. We seek an experienced athletic administrator to lead our interscholastic athletic programs. For the appropriately certified individual, the District would consider a full-time appointment as Director of Athletics. Job Summary:The K-12 Director of Athletics will lead the interscholastic athletics, intramural activities, and help to coordinate the District’s physical education and health programs as they relate to athletics and intramural activities. For an appropriately certified applicant, the K-12 Director of Athletics, Physical Education, and Health will lead the interscholastic athletics, and intramural activities.The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to motivate and guide staff members toward achieving program goals. This position prioritizes interscholastic athletics, ensuring a focus on student-athlete success and engagement. Key Responsibilities:Leadership:Provide administrative leadership by organizing pre-season meetings for coaches, students, and parents.Conduct coaching evaluations and program evaluations to ensure continuous improvement and accountability.Program/Team Development:Establish off-season training programs that promote athlete development.Organize clinics and camps for coaching professional development and connect youth programs to varsity programs through these events.Maintain a visible presence at interscholastic athletic contests to foster relationships and support.Development for Student Athletes:Implement programs focused on mental resilience, conditioning, and mindset, including film study sessions.Athletic Conditioning and Training Program:Develop and oversee fitness and health programs emphasizing physical strength, conditioning, determination, and competitiveness.Recruitment:Develop and implement strategies to recruit student athletes, including multi-sport and two-sport athletes.Recruit qualified coaches with college-level experience.Oversee the hiring and vetting process in collaboration with a hiring committee.Coaching Certification and Evaluation:Ensure that all coaches meet New York State criteria as certified coachesConduct annual evaluations to maintain high standardsMake recommendations to the Superintendent of Schools for annual appointments and/or reappointmentsCommunity Engagement:Enhance communication with the community through platforms such as ParentSquare, social media, and the school webpage.Bridge the gap between youth and school athletics, ensuring the successful candidate has a plan to connect youth/community athletics with interscholastic athletics.Utilize a systematic approach to garner community support and trust, maintaining visibility throughout community athletics.Expectations and Standards:Create and maintain handbooks for coaches and student athletes that outline expectations and responsibilities, ensuring they remain current.General Oversight:Develop and manage inclusive, developmentally appropriate physical education, health, and athletic programs aligned with district goals.Work with district leadership to innovate and shape a strategic vision for related programs.Represent the district in league/athletic associations and attend related meetings.Schedule interscholastic contests for all levels (Modified, Junior Varsity, Varsity).Prepare and manage a fiscally responsible annual budget.Oversee athletic facilities, uniforms, equipment, and scheduling, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and readiness of all athletic and teaching spaces.Communicate with students and parents regarding team expectations and competition levels.Track, report, and celebrate student/team achievements and progress.Plan and implement seasonal award ceremonies and pre-season meetings for coaches.Coordinate game transportation, officials, chaperones, and scorekeepers.Maintain updated handbooks and the athletics section of the district website.Manage the High School Athletic and Fitness Center for school and community use.Work with the health office and athletic trainers to ensure compliance with student medical requirements and concussion protocols.Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or the Superintendent’s designee. Qualifications:NYS Administrative Certification – Director of AthleticsAdministrative Certification (SAS, SDA, SBL, or SDA) preferredProven experience in athletic administration, coaching, or related fields.Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.Ability to engage effectively with students, parents, and community members. Requirements:NYSED Fingerprint Clearance.Prior coaching experience: varsity-level coaching experience preferred.Prior experience as a collegiate athlete preferred.Prior experience evaluating coaches and coordinating game supervision. Additional Qualifications:Certification: All Administrative Certifications (SAS, SDA, SBL, SDL, Internship) eligible.Strong background working with student-athletes and coaching staff.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; empathetic and professional demeanor.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.Collaborative mindset and community-oriented approach.Physically capable of fulfilling job responsibilities.Positive, flexible, and enthusiastic attitude.Five or more years of teaching experience; physical education and/or health, preferred.
