South Glens Falls Central Schools has an anticipated probationary vacancy for a School Social Worker at the High School beginning April 17, 2023Performance Responsibilities:Related ServicesCompletes classroom visitations to observe students.Prepares a social or developmental history on a child with a disability.Provides direct counseling services to students Supports parents as needed to include home visits whenever appropriate and applicable.Mobilizes family, school and community resources to enable the child to learn as effectively as possible in his or her educational program.Assists in developing positive behavioral intervention strategies. Services to Students:Provides crisis intervention.Develops intervention strategies to increase academic success.Assists with conflict resolution and anger management.Helps children develop appropriate social interaction skills.Assists students in understanding and accepting self and others.Services to Parents/FamiliesConducts home visits related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues.Works with parents to facilitate their support in their children’s school adjustment.Alleviates family stress to enable the child to function more effectively in school and community.Assists parents to access programs available to students with special needs. Services to School PersonnelProvides staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student’s performance and behavior.Assesses students with mental health concerns.Develops staff in-service training programs. Assists teachers with behavior management.Provides direct support to staff.School-Community LiaisonServes as District liaison with community service agencies.Prepares and assists parents and/or students for referral to outside agencies.Advocates for new and improved community/school service to meet the needs of students and families. Helps the system respond effectively to each child’s needs.Services to DistrictsAssists in developing and implementing educational programs for exceptional children. Identifies and reports child abuse and neglect. Develops alternative programs for drop-outs, truants, delinquents, etc.Attends CSE, CPSE, IST, 405, staff and other meetings when requested.Assists IST Team in developing Behavior Management Improvement Plans (BIP) and Individual Crisis Management Plans (ICMP) as needed.Completes all reports that are required for proper intervention in a timely and accountable manner. Maintains certification in Crisis Management appropriate with program (i.e., TCIS)Any other such duties as assigned by the Superintendent of SchoolsJob QualificationsMaster’s Degree from an accredited College with Social Work Program.Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)Other as determined by the Board of Education and Superintendent of Schools
