The Theresa Paplin School is a non-diploma bound, New York State certified special education school that serves adolescents and young adults who are dually diagnosed with a serious emotional disturbance as well as a developmental disability.Job description• Create and implement lesson plans that teach art education to students with developmental disabilities.• Establish a developmentally appropriate classroom environment favorable to the development and personal growth of children.• Oversee and instruct classroom Teaching Assistants.• Maintain supplies and equipment that pertain to art.• Make recommendations for new materials and supplies that need to be ordered.• Maintain and keep records of quarterly and yearly progress for each student.• Evaluate and assess each student’s level in art education skills.• Attend and participate in faculty meetings, in-service trainings, team conferences, outside professional development conferences.• Implement Behavior Intervention Plans during class time.• Bachelor’s Degree or Masters Degree in Art Education and Special Education.• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills• Good oral and written communication skills.• Knowledge of special education and instructional practices.• Experience providing art education to those diagnosed with Autism and/or Intellectual Disabilities.• Acceptable clearance checks for State Central Register, Driver license and fingerprinting as required by the program.• This position requires successful completion of TCI training, which includes a written test and demonstration of the competency to perform physical restraints, as specified by the program and regulatory body.• Additionally, staff must successfully complete all required TCI refreshers in order to maintain continued employment.SCO Family of Services is an equal employment opportunity employer.
