ANTICIPATED VACANCY The Seaford Union Free School District has the following opening: Coordinator for Fine & Applied Arts (K-12) Effective: July 1, 2026 Qualifications: Appropriate administrative certifications (New York State SDL or SDA). Highly effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with individuals and teams. Minimum of ten (10) years of successful experience as a teacher or in a related field or in school administration. Ability to provide effective supervision and evaluation of employees. Holds a valid New York State Certification in Music or Art. Basic understanding of special education laws and district CSE procedures. Maintains accurate and complete student records in accordance with state and federal laws, district policies & regulations . Supervises: Full and part-time teachers in Music, Art, Technology Education, Business, and FACS Departments & non-certified staff in those departments. General: Participates in monthly Elementary and Secondary Administrative Meetings and bi-weekly Directors’ Meetings.? Develops annual administrative and departmental goals aligned to District Goals.? Conducts department meetings and coordinates professional development for the Music, Art, Technology Education, Business and FACS departments.?? Supports the Lead Teachers and Teacher Liaisons.? Works cooperatively with building principals, district administrators and teachers to develop, evaluate, and revise school programs and curriculum offerings.? Communicates frequently and clearly with parents, guardians, caregivers, and community agencies.? Participates in the interview and hiring process for relevant departments.? Attends Board of Education meetings and prepares presentations and reports for the Board of Education as the Superintendent may request.? Oversees budgeting and expenditures in music and arts departments K-12.? Participates in conferences, workshops, trainings, and meetings at local, state, and national levels.? Performs such other duties in fulfillment of the general responsibilities as may be desirable and necessary to enhance departments.? Assumes responsibility for meaningful observation and teaching experiences for student teachers and interns as appropriate.? Works collaboratively with the webmaster to maintain an engaging, up-to-date, and robust Seaford Union Free School District website and social media presence. Responsibilities: Fine & Applied Arts Programs Advises the Superintendent of Schools and the Assistant Superintendents about all matters related to the teaching of Music, Fine & Applied Arts programs. Supervises all aspects of programs that involve students in curricular and co-curricular activities related to classroom programs, public performances, and exhibits. Responsible for the budgeting, purchasing, and distributing equipment, textbooks, and supplies for Music, Fine & Applied Arts. Approves purchase requests, submits all purchase requisitions, and recommends payment. Coordinates fundraising activities. Responsible for supervising, observing, and recommending staff for appointment and/or tenure in conjunction with the building administration and the central office administration. Ensures that all aspects of the Music, Fine & Applied Arts programs comply with State Education Department mandates, District policies and regulations, health and safety precautions, and negotiated contract agreements. Maintains an inventory of all art-related materials and all instruments and music equipment, including pianos, and assumes the coordination for the repair of this equipment. Maintains a file for loans of school-owned instruments. Responsible for the collection and efficient utilization of maintenance fees and the equitable distribution of equipment, instruments, and materials. Performs other responsibilities as deemed by the Superintendent of Schools or her/his designee. Plans and coordinates curricular and co-curricular elementary and secondary school concerts; out-of-district exchange concerts and performances; parades and football shows. Oversees and supports student participation in NYSSMA and other local music and art festivals by coordinating preparation efforts, providing guidance to students and staff, facilitating communication with families, and ensuring students are fully prepared for successful participation.
