Certification/Qualifications NYS Certification as School Psychologist This position requires a high degree of cultural responsiveness, knowledge of the educational impacts of trauma, and creativity when addressing the needs of students Ability to be empathetic by caring, understanding, and cultivating an empowering environment for all students Ability to develop trust with students Ability to implement an organizational system to support both case management and student needs simultaneously Ability to observe with skill and listen closely Ability to make impartial, informed decisions on behalf of students and families Ability to be persistent and resilient when dealing with setbacks Flexibility and willingness to multitask as needed Ability to use culturally responsive approaches to develop relationships and implement interventions with fidelity Willingness to learn in order to be relatable, flexible, personable, and adaptable Commitment to engaging in continuous self-care Responsibilities This position reports to the Pupil Services Division and the school principal in a small rural school district located west of the Capital Region of Upstate New York The School Psychologist works with teachers, parents, and school leaders to develop plans and strategies to improve students’ academic performance and social-emotional development The School Psychologist possesses the competencies necessary to serve the psychological and educational needs of children, adolescents, and families The School Psychologist serves as a change agent for the district and assigned school Assessment: Administer psychological and educational assessments Consultative Skills: Work with teachers, staff, and students to develop behavior plans Intervention: Design and evaluate programs to intervene both directly and indirectly with children’s academic, behavioral, and emotional needs Demonstrate understanding of culturally diverse children, parents, teachers, and school personnel Provide assessment and intervention solutions as part of the role as facilitator of the school-based support team Demonstrate knowledge of special education regulations, processes, and procedures Demonstrate patience when working with serious issues, students, and families Please provide a letter of interest, current resume, copy of certifications and at least three professional references.
