DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position involves responsibility for planning, assigning and supervising complex account keeping activities through the application of standardized account keeping and supervisory practices. In addition, the incumbent acts as School District Treasurer. The work requires the use of computer, remote computer, terminal or similar computer equipment in the performance of daily work-related tasks. General supervision is received from higher level administrative staff, with wide leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in giving out information regarding departmental policies and practices, and in planning the routine of the office. The incumbent does related work as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Serves as the liaison for Insurance and Benefits for all employees. Plans, assigns and reviews the maintaining and checking of a wide variety of financial records and reports and instructs employees in the specialized details of this work; Oversees and assists in the classification of a complex variety of receipts and expenditures and the distribution of costs according to prescribed codes; Directs the audit of varied account, claims and records the preparation of reports thereon; Has charge of the compilation, preparation and analysis of a variety of complex financial and statistical records and reports; Assists in the preparation of annual operating budgets and insures the maintenance of necessary financial controls; Revises, systemizes and installs account-keeping methods and procedures; Reconciles ledgers of revenue received with bank statements; May supervise the preparation of purchase orders and the securing of bids from vendors; Conducts correspondence in connection with financial matters; Acts as School District Treasurer; Performs a variety of related duties as required.ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of modern methods of keeping and reviewing financial accounts and records; Thorough knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment; Thorough knowledge of Business Arithmetic and English; Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others; Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; Ability to handle routine administrative details independently; Ability to prepare correspondence and reports; Ability to use good judgment in solving complex account keeping problems; Must have a high degree of accuracy.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and three years of experience in maintaining financial accounts and records, one year of which shall have been at the supervisory level.
