Computer Science Teacher - Schenectady High SchoolThe Schenectady City School District is seeking a full-time Computer Science Teacher, beginning at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The Computer Science Teacher is expected to assist students in understanding and applying Computer Science in real-world situations. The Computer Science Teacher will ensure all students are engaged in the lesson and persevering when presented with higher-level tasks. The successful candidate will have knowledge of urban schools and urban communities. This position requires a high degree of problem-solving, creativity, resilience and ingenuity.Computer Science Teacher ExpectationsKnowledge of New York State Computer Science and Digital Fluency Learning Standards, lesson planning and high leverage practices;Effective in classroom management, parent communication, differentiated instruction;Ability to use technology Juicemind, Zybooks and other INtegrated Development Environments (IDE);Knowledge of Python, HTML, JavaScript, CSS and Java and block coding;Able to engage students in the math curriculum toward mastery of the standards;Ability to craft detailed lesson plans showing thoughtfulness into various activities to engage the students.Teach students how to use Computer Science principles to resolve real-world problems.Computer Science Teacher Key QualitiesBe a collaborative team player with other teachers;Work toward fulfilling the district goals of equity, literacy and graduation by supporting and expanding Computer Science instruction;Models a growth mindset;Establishes and maintains good relationships with colleagues, learners and parents;Uses students' lived experiences to guide instruction.Job QualificationsMinimum QualificationsNYS Computer Science certification (all grades).Experience with teaching children grades 9 through 12 is preferred.
