The Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity and Engagement plays a crucial role in ensuring that SCSD realizes its district and school transformation goals. This individual serves as a key member of the district's cabinet representing all functional areas of the district. The Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity and Engagement will be accountable for implementation of key district-wide priorities and initiatives. The Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity and Engagement will also act as a thought partner, problem solver, and change agent to internal and external stakeholders with an unwavering commitment to getting the job done. RESPONSIBILITIES: Specifically, the Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity and Engagement will lead a team of administrators to perform the following duties and all other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and his/her designee: • Establish and lead the implementation of Parent Centers and strengthen parental engagement across the district • Lead the implementation of a Community Schools strategy encompassing schools, Saturday, and evening programs and engage community stakeholders to serve as critical partners • Establish, nurture, guide and extend partnerships with community, collegiate, healthcare, faith-based and business partnerships. • Strengthen our relationships with key community members by working collaborating and effectively with various community-based organizations to execute key strategic plan goals and objectives. • Oversee the development and implementation of various contracts with community-based organizations which provide services during the Saturday and after-school programs. • Develop and implement strategies and plans to promote the district’s equity, diversity and inclusion goals and address culture and climate matters related to diversity and inclusion for both employees and students. • Cultivate relationships with key partners to recruit and create a pipeline of diverse applicants for employment in all positions in the district, and develop strategies for support and retention of employees of color. • Lead various initiatives including, My Brother's Keeper (which includes the Challenge Grant, Family & Community Engagement Grant) • Oversee innovative extracurricular and school-day programming for boys and young men of color such as a Male Academy, internships, pre-natal to pre-k readiness, access to college and advanced placement courses and engagement with accurate history of African Americans, Latinos, Asians and others. • Oversee the Adult and Continuing Education programs and continue to develop the division's synergy with various departments, county, city and community-based organizations. Support the division in finalizing a financial aid program for adult learners and seek additional grant funding to support and expand the opportunities. • Collaboratively plan, act, assess, monitor and revise all of the initiatives described above and those assigned by the Superintendent • Use data to identify the return on investment of the various initiatives described above. • Attend all Board of Education and cabinet meetings and provide assistance in the preparation and execution of these meetings to the superintendent. • Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties. • Perform any duties that are within the scope of employment and certification assigned by the superintendent and not otherwise prohibited by law or regulation. KEY COMPETENCIES: Individual serving as the Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity and Engagement will demonstrate the following: • Successful experience in building a high-performance culture and team • Serve as a self-starter innovator supporting the Superintendent's vision, goals and objectives • Strategic outlook and ability to lead with a systems results-oriented perspective • Ability to engage in effective interpersonal communications • Capacity to identify, diagnose and prioritize key issues • Advanced skills for effective delegation and follow-through • Empowers others in order to craft innovative solutions to seemingly intractable problems • High reliability and executes tasks and directives in timely manner • Outstanding project management skills • Other duties as assigned SALARY: Starting at $145,000, commensurate with experience LOCATION: Central Office QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a Master's degree, and a New York State School District Administrator (SDA), or School District Leader (SDL) certificate by the time of appointment, with 5-8 years of management experience. Successful experience as a principal or administrative supervision of extracurricular programming or activities would be important to fulfilling the responsibilities of the Assistant Superintendent of Innovation, Equity & Engagement, but is not required. Candidates with effective prior administrative experience in an urban school district with a large racially and economically diverse population are preferred.
