The Director for Instructional Technology is responsible for leading the district's vision and mission according to the Strategic Plan for the implementation of equitable, high quality instructional technology practices. The Director will develop systems and structures to provide leading edge educational practices that utilize our district's technologies, researched best practice teaching strategies.This position will collaborate with the executive leadership team, building and department leadership, and the Instructional Technology Coaches to:• Establish a vision, strategic plan, and ongoing evaluation cycle for transforming learning with technology;• Develop a skills continuum of digital expectations for grade level bands;• Research, explore, assess and plan for the implementation of digital resources that meet the needs of students, staff, and families• Identify technological needs and support specific instructional goalsSpecific responsibilities include:Vision• Develop an Instructional Technology Integration Plan in collaboration with the Offices of Teaching & Learning,Student Support Services, and Innovation, Equity and Engagement to be approved by the Superintendent of Schools and adopted by the Board of Education;• Build teams and systems to implement, sustain and continually improve the use of technology to support learning.• Research and evaluate new and emerging educational technologies;• Develop Grade Level Digital Fluency Expectations for all students to set the district’s learning expectations to ensure that all students acquire the full range of technological skills they will need for success at the next level;• Network with local, regional, and national technology associations.• Collaborate, research and guide decisions around instructional technology supports, programs and professional development to help support and enrich instruction and infrastructure to ensure successful implementation.• Serve as the Data Privacy Officer for the district. Professional Development• Orchestrate on-going professional training to create school-wide vision about the use and benefits of instructional technology.• Work with teaching and learning directors and AD’s and Chief Technology Officer to foster and support a culture of innovation and experimentation.• Establish systems for teachers to access, preview, or pilot new hardware and software applications.• Develop, coordinate, and teach workshops to train teachers in the use of new tools and instructional applications.• Provide technical assistance to individual teachers as they deploy new devices or applications.• Assist with the development of and participate in technology user groups.• Facilitate the faculty’s professional growth by identifying and recommending external professional development opportunities.• Design and provide PD for faculty/staff and leaders to support technology integration in daily practice Resource Allocation• Work in close coordination with the Chief Technology Officer, the Director of Teaching and Learning, Executive Directors with building leaders and other key stakeholders to ensure that the school’s technology budget is deployed as effectively as possible, focusing the resources on the key strategic priorities and initiatives;• Work with the Information Technology Department to troubleshoot problems and ensure the smooth and efficient operation of devices and systems.• Develop a system for the inventorying and deployment of instruction technology resources.• Ensure EdLaw2d Compliance Supervisory Structure• The instructional technology coaches will be supervised and supported by the Director for InstructionalTechnology.Additional Responsibilities• Oversees the all aspects of the District’s Career & Technical Education Programming• Facilitates the professional development needs of the CTE department• Oversees the hiring of CTE teachers• Coordinates and provides oversight the reapplication process and grant renewals related to State Education DepartmentReporting Structure The Director for Instructional Technology is a direct report to the Chief Technology Officer. The Director for Instructional Technology will be supported by the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning to support all teaching and learning initiatives, as appropriate. The Director for Instructional Technology may be asked to have periodic check-ins with the Deputy Superintendent to ensure a smooth transitionSALARY: Starting at $97,350 per SAA contractLOCATION: Central OfficeRequired Qualifications• NYS School District Leadership Certificate• Bachelor’s degree/Master’s preferred in an appropriate field• Three to five years of classroom experienceDesired Qualifications• Expertise and expertise in the alignment of instructional technology with curriculum• Extensive professional experience in the area of Instructional Technology• Ability to communicate and work well with faculty, administrators, students and BOCES IT professionals in and out of our district• Ability to think strategically, plan effectively, and implement successfully• Excellent trouble-shooting skills; ability to narrow down an issue and determine a solution• Eagerness to learn new instructional technologies and attend conferences on future ready practices and bring them back to share to colleagues at SCSD• Superior organizational skills, attentiveness to detail to lead and support building leaders with roll out of 1:1 device distribution, repairs and collection systems.The Schenectady City School District is committed to hiring members of the protected classes and residents of the City of Schenectady.For more information on the Schenectady City School District recruitment and hiring plan, please contact the Office of HumanResources.
