THIS IS A 12-MONTH POSITION.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This position exists in a school district and involves the responsibility for providing support to the Nurse Manager and staffing coordination of all district managed buildings to ensure that there is daily coverage. When coverage of necessary openings cannot be secured through outside nursing or substitutes, the Assistant Nurse Manager will support with this coverage.. The work is performed under the supervision of the Nurse Manager with leeway given for carrying out the details of the work. Supervision may be exercised over Registered Professional Nurses (School). Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Responsible for coordinating district nurse staffing in all school buildings;Provide coverage of any nurse shortage if coverage from substitutes and outside agencies is not adequate;Works with the Nurse Manager on implementation and management of the District Wellness Policy;Works with the Nurse Manager on updating district procedural guidelines for nurses and staff dealing with physical and mental health needs consistent with the State and County standards;Assists with professional development and orientation for all nurses;Assists with training district nursing staff;Monitors nursing inventory and facilities for comprehensive and continued safety;Acts in the absence of the Nurse Manager;Performs other health and wellness related duties as required.FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of nursing principles and techniques and their relation to medical practices and skill in their application; ability to understand and follow technical oral and written instructions and the ability to disseminate the same to onsite school nurses; ability to plan and schedule the work of others; ability to keep accurate records and reports; ability to establish productive working relationships and elicit the cooperation of others; good written and oral communication skills.Civil Service Title: Assistant Nurse ManagerJob QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Possession of a license and current registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State and three (3) years of experience as a Registered Professional Nurse, one (1) year of which shall have been in a school, clinical, community or hospital setting.
