GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIESReporting to the Director of Adult and Continuing Education this position is responsible for assisting the Director with the leadership and supervision of Adult and Continuing Education programs. ESSENTIAL TASKS INCLUDE:GeneralAssist the Director in maintaining the philosophical goals of the WIEC program and assume the Director's responsibilities in his/her absence.Preparation of evaluative data and SED reports.Recruitment of students for all programs.Periodically review number of student referrals by various agencies in previous years.Investigate the current number of students, both welfare and non-welfare, to ensure that it is sufficient in number and kind to meet budgetary quotas.Review student records upon completion of their independent program.Provide effective educational methods to educate students to their capacity and increase their job potential.Work cooperatively with other staff members, both professional and para professional.Establish ongoing activities, which effectively project the image of an educational program of value.Prepare and distribute printed program announcements.SupervisionEvaluate the quality of instruction and provide assistance in classroom management and instruction where indicated.Examine, select and implement new techniques, materials and instructional practices.Evaluate professional staff with or without the assistance of the Director.Develop and maintain a teacher informational and program manual.Train and orient new teachers and provide ongoing professional development for the improvement of instruction for the teachers.Ensure acquisition of required instructional equipment and instructional supplies and supervise their distribution.Organize and review classes so as to provide proper ability grouping.Provide periodic checks of teacher bimonthly attendance rates to note the increase or decrease rate and deal effectively with it.Promote professional communication and development of the faculty from within with all involved participating.Increase the percentage of people realizing their particular goal in basic or continuing education.Coordination with outside AgenciesDevelop cooperative projects with community agencies.Participate in agency and community activities.Meet with various educational representatives and agency staff in the planning of new classes, projects or programs.Conduct informational sessions and present to civic groups.Insure a constant flow of students from various city and county agencies.Disseminate compilation of the staff philosophy to individuals and agencies not familiar with the program to see of statement of philosophy is effective.Recruit new sites where agencies have an educational need.Program and Grant ManagementAssist Director in prepping annual budgets and programs. Assist director in developing and justifying budgets.Prepare state program reports.Seek out and apply for competitive and non-competitive funding. Performs related work as requiredKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of SCSD instructional programs and of adult and continuing education policies, procedures, services, program design, delivery and management models and processesKnowledge of varying developmental needs of students, including ethnic or linguistic diversityThe ability to lead and motivate staff, use computer and other technologyMust be skilled in staff and program supervision and adult training techniques and possess excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish good relationships with a diverse populationMust have excellent oral and written communication skills and have excellent organizational skillsMust demonstrate leadership in assessing student needs; planning, developing and implementing programs through a lens of equity; evaluating program effectiveness; and in planning and conducting staff training, educational program and policy developmentAbility to maintain confidentialityJob QualificationsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEMaster’s DegreeSchool Building Leader (SBL) CertificateAdministrative and/or supervisory experience preferred
