The South Colonie Central School District is looking for a part-time Public Information Specialist to assist with publicizing news and events, maintaining district website, creating website and social media content and performing various communications duties in support of the South Colonie’s mission. The schedule is flexible, with working hours Monday-Friday, equivalent to 20 hours a week.Responsibilities:Works with district employees, the media, various agencies, the community, and the public to gather and provide internal and external communication.Writes, edits, and supervises the production of website stories, social media posts, news releases, publications, and other materials, as assigned.Develops, designs, produces, and coordinates the production of promotional materials for internal and external distribution.Assists district employees with media contacts, media inquiries, public relations and presentations to facilitate the communication of educational programs and activities.Provides information and promotes educational programs or events, as needed, and in emergency or crisis situations.Attends meetings as needed.Maintains records of information released.Performs other duties related to the position, as assigned.Graphic design and video production skills preferred.Qualifications:A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with at least a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional experience in communications, journalism, writing, public administration, marketing, public policy or public relations; OR,B. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with at least an Associate’s degree and four (4) years of professional experience in communications, journalism, writing, public administration, marketing, public policy or public relations; OR,C. High school degree or GED and six (6) years of professional experience in communications, journalism, writing, public administration, marketing, public policy or public relations.Job Type: Part-timeHourly Rate: $25-35/hour, Rate commensurate with experience.Schedule:20 hours per week, day shift, flexible schedule, occasional weekend hoursEducation:Bachelors (Preferred)Work Location: In-person with telework availability
