Scarsdale Public Schools is seeking a skilled and creative Theater Director to oversee the management and operation of the district's performing arts spaces. This role is central to supporting high-quality theatrical productions and events, ensuring that all technical, operational, and scheduling aspects of the district's theaters run smoothly. Working under general supervision, the Theater Director participates in all phases of theater production, from technical direction and equipment management to coordinating performances and overseeing facility improvements. Key Responsibilities Manage and oversee all district performing arts spaces, including scheduling school and external events Coordinate audio-visual and technical support with performing arts and IT staff Serve as Technical Director for the high school theater program Operate and maintain computerized lighting and professional sound systems Act as the primary contact for all theater and performance space usage Collaborate with administrators and the Director of Performing Arts on facility use and production needs Advise staff on equipment requirements for productions and special projects Supervise and instruct students in set construction and use of theater technology Assist with set building for district theater productions Maintain inventory, service records, and usage logs for all theater equipment Coordinate and liaise with contractors for construction and renovation projects Support outside organizations using district theater facilities Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of theatrical lighting and sound systems, including computerized controls Understanding of theater facility operations and equipment maintenance Excellent organizational and scheduling abilities Effective communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to supervise, train, and mentor students Proficiency in computer applications (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing, email, databases) Demonstrated creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with staff, students, and the community Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree* in Theater Production, Theater Arts Management, Arts Administration, or a related fieldAND Two (2) years of experience in theater operations, production management, or technical theater (lighting/sound systems) Substitution: Completion of 30 college credits in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of required experience *Education must be from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Special Requirement Must obtain clearance through a fingerprint and criminal history background check in accordance with New York State SAVE legislation prior to employment Additional Information Civil Service Classification: Non-Competitive (Job Class Code: S1025) This position involves collaboration with administrators, faculty, students, contractors, and community members Physical ability consistent with the demands of theater production work is required FLSA Status: Exempt
