Position: Secondary Guidance Chairperson (Grades 6–12)Location: Sayville High SchoolSayville Public Schools is seeking a dedicated and experienced school counselor to serve as Guidance Chairperson for grades 6–12. The ideal candidate will provide academic, social-emotional, and career guidance to ensure that all students thrive in a supportive and inclusive environment. This role works closely and collaboratively with the Principal, helping to align guidance services with the school’s mission and student needs. Start date is anticipated to be late August 2026 with the understanding that some work days over the summer will be required.Key Responsibilities:Lead and coordinate the guidance program for grades 6–12.Provide academic guidance, including course selection, progress monitoring, and individualized student support plans.Offer career and college counseling, including guidance on college applications, scholarship opportunities, and career exploration.Support students’ social-emotional development through counseling, mentorship, and conflict resolution.Collaborate with the Principal, teachers, staff, and parents to address student needs and promote a positive school environment.Lead the development and implementation of innovative workshops, programs, and initiatives that drive student success and well-being.Maintain accurate records and monitor the effectiveness of guidance services, ensuring continuous improvement.Maintain involvement in relevant professional organizations and leverage best practices to lead and support student success. Qualifications:SBL certification or equivalentMaster’s degree in School Counseling, Education, or a related field (preferred).Valid state certification in School Counseling (or equivalent).Experience working with middle and high school students (grades 6–12).Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively with school administrators, staff, students, and families.Application Process: Sayville Schools is anticipating a vacancy as noted above.
