Director of Technology and Innovation Job Summary: The Director of Technology and Innovation is a visionary leader responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan for technology across the district. This role encompasses both administrative and technical oversight of technology services, ensuring the effective integration of digital tools in educational and administrative practices. The Director will employ both big-picture insights and hands-on collaboration to engage with stakeholders at all levels—administrators, educators, parents, and students—to foster a culture of responsible and innovative technology use.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership:Develop and execute a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with the district's educational goals.Champion the integration of technology into the curriculum, ensuring access to 21st-century learning tools for all educators.Stay informed about emerging trends in educational technology to support decision-making.Technology Management:Oversee the planning, implementation, and maintenance of the district's technology infrastructure.Manage technology staff, providing mentorship and professional development to enhance performance.Maintain hardware and software inventory, establish an “effective life” for hardware and software, and investigate migration and obsolescence plans for technologies. Organize and supervise a districtwide technology equipment distribution system.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local technology policies, including data privacy and security.Work with technology consultant to establish and maintain technology help desk, monitor and maintain district network, servicers, upgrades and licensing. Ensure district compliance with software licensure requirements.Data Coordination and Reporting:Serve as the District Data Protection Officer and District Data Coordinator, performing all responsibilities required of these roles, including monthly attendance at CIO meetings provided by the Regional Information Center (RIC).Act as the liaison with the Regional Information Center for data reporting and compliance.Oversee the collection and reporting of data for state assessments and special education programs.Ensure accurate certification of data prior to transmission to relevant agencies.Budget and Procurement:Develop and manage the technology budget, ensuring resources align with strategic priorities.Oversee the acquisition and maintenance of hardware and software, negotiating contracts as needed.Identify and pursue funding opportunities, including E-Rate applications.Professional Development and Support:Oversight and support for Library Media SpecialistsLead staff development initiatives focused on integrating technology into instructional practices.Provide ongoing support and resources to educators in utilizing technology effectively.Policy Development:Maintain and update the district’s technology policies, including Acceptable Use Policies and data protection measures (Parent Bill of Rights, EdLaw2d).Ensure the district's technology initiatives are in line with educational standards and best practices.Qualifications:Advanced degree in Educational Technology or a related field preferred.Experience in K-12 education, preferably with a NYS Teaching Certification.School District Leader (SDL) or equivalent professional certification.Proven expertise in technology planning and personnel management in an educational setting.Strong project management skills with a track record of successful technology integration.Excellent communication, organizational, supervision, and interpersonal skills.Terms of Employment: 12-month position, reporting to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. Salary commensurate with experience and determined by the Board of Education.
